Does anyone recon theres anything super dodgey about this car:

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/priva...p;PriceMax=7500

the guys said he'll sell it for $4500

its not road worthy and reg.

the guy says "Front bar is damaged, dint in bonnet, Car hasn't been used for years, need the space. Must be sold by Thursday."

I'm going to look at it tomorrow or Wednesday, what do i need to look for?

unfinished project.. body needs TLC.. selling cheap as... not been run in yrs..

sounds like it needs a fair bit to get it going.. i would be careful about turning it on.. prob needs everything manually primed and pump to get everything lubricated.. and prob requires some work.. and most prob won't pass a road worthy test...

so if you want a car you need to work on to get it going then yeah might be good... but for a car that you wanna drive the same day.. no i wouldnt.. i'd also be suspicious of the engine.. and you never know... but again all depends on what you want it for.. most on here will agree with me and wouldnt buy it if you arent going to put the effort into it.. or take a risk on it costing you more than you might think if problems arise

^^^ +1

As well as Craig's advice, I'd be wary of any time-limit attached.

Even if you're mechanically minded, can you take along 2 minders at the 1st visit and if that's got you coming back, take 1 minder for the 2nd.

On the 1st visit, take one person who's a mechanic (preferably Skyline-familiar) who can check engine, susp'n & running gear, steering, oil/seepage/leaks, coolant, etc: another who's a panelbeater or equiv. to check for rust, condition of trim & upholstery, previous damage or repair to that damage. You check the logs/history with cond of carpet/steering wheel. Ask Qs about what caused the car to be off the road, why he's selling, and watch his body language all the time.

If there's a 2nd visit, you take along someone who can bargain. Look for the thread on this forum about bartering.

Am I suspicious about this car? YES!

    • Definitely do-able haha. I will give it a try if the fuel pump hanger does not solve the issue. Just need to find some quiet time in the area, Malta is like a big city and I live right next to the main hospital so it is very busy during the day. I'll be installing it in about 2 weeks, found a garage that is pretty knowledgeable and has the necessary tools. This garage has worked on multiple builds, even for competitions. They even asked me to stay with, so I should be fine.
    • Just to add, I found the r32 gtr ecu the most forgiving, the r33 one would get the shits.
    • For what it’s worth I drove my gtr for over a decade with gt-ss as a true daily after I pulled off the -5s, I had it engineered and went with stock ecu etc.  never skipped a beat.    I would only worry if you can’t get good fuel all the time in a tropical paradise
    • I bought an engine from a friend of a friend many years ago, it was sold to me as a RB25det Neo.    recently I started pulling it apart and noticed that the intake manifold was pretty different from others that I had seen on RB engines so did a bit of research and found that it was a non turbo manifold. So I’m sceptical now that it is a NEO DET and just thinking it’s a NEO DE (it does have a turbo strapped to it currently).    can you identify the engine model from the numbers on the block?
    • Yeah you can. Cable tie the gauge to a windscreen wiper, or run it into the car and hold it with one hand, or have the neighbour's kid run alongside and tell you what it says.
