Hey all! first post =]

Just have a question, i have a series 2 r33 gtst and want to know if the pipe that goes to the turbo back to the cat, "front pipe" make her quite? i have a 3 inch with a hi-flow resonator and a 4inch x force cannon.

Thanks. =]

No.

Your cat will cut out some noise, but not much. The resonator will cut out the most and cannon only a little.

Ok, thanks for the reply. =]

But if i put a center muffler in somewhere it definatley make it quiter yes? im only asking about the center muffler cause my exhaust mech, told me that there was no room? for a oval shaped muffler?? this true? do u know anyone that has put a center muffler on my type of car? pics?

thanks soo much man, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The centre oval resonator/muffler will cut out the most noise. But also if you get a decent flowing oval rear muffler that will help a lot to reduce noise.

I removed my centre oval resonator (xforce system also) for clearance because is hung to low after I lowered the car. At the same time the car was pretty quiet with it fitted, but after it was removed it was a fair bit louder but doesn't seem to be overly loud in my case.

If you've got noise issues and your lacking space underneath your car for the exhaust, maybe you should inquire about getting a hotdog (one of those long tubular resonators) and getting a decent oval rear muffler. I hear Magna Flow make decent flowing rear mufflers, these also steer away from having the regular cannon look.

From what your saying though, you've already got a centre resonator, an oval one. That should be adequate to cut down noise, is it still too loud is it?

If so maybe look into just the rear muff as I mentioned above.

hmmmm...the thing is right, i bought that 4inch xforce stainless steel cannon for $180. i really dont want to go and buy another rear muffler. Im sure there is a way to get it quite just under legal limit? my plan was to make the 3inch quite and be able to have the 4inch cannon..... :action-smiley-069: You mentioned you had a oval center muffler/resonator? do you own a r33 gtst? if you do have a gtst then i can fit a oval center muffler right? im not planning to lowering the car cause ill be putting 19's to fill the gueards up abit.

thanks again man. =]

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
