took me a few times re reading but now i see what you did there hahahaha

Hahahahaha until I read this I didn't realise there was a cunning stunt performed, awesome :D

BTW, it occured to me that this power figure is the highest I've read about on a Dyno Dynamics running 98 without nitrous.... gotta be up there?

we did my whole engine for $19000AUD...all JUN stuff...it ran 9's on its first outing...the same engine freshened up will go close to 8's on its next outing with new turbo set-up and proper gearbox. This is in a 1460kg GTR on street rubber.

So if I send you au19k and supply nothing, you'll build me a complete reliable RB26/30 4wd engine that I can get back here, install and tune and it'll make enough power to run low 9s in a 1460kg GTR on radials?

And if the answer is no, can you tell me why not?

What hp do you make it that you'd need to do what were tallking about here, around 1000hp?

Rob

hey hey hey...put your ego back in your pants big boy.

to me a price like that for a bottom end is a little pricey...like i said...good luck to you if you can get people to part with it. Im not the only one in the scene here in Aust who have seen your asking price for a bottom end and have been surprised.

if other people are happy to pay that sort of cash then fine. I have people who whinge about $15000-$20000 quotes for 9 sec turn key engine packages...let alone just bottom ends.

not trying to start a e-war here...not at all. As can be seen by my quote below...but it wasn't enough for you to let go and you still seem upset for some strange reason.

Not at all having a go at you...If you can get people to part with $19000NZD for a bottom end all the best of luck to you Rob. Well Done.

lets get it back on topic shall we.

I'm not upset at all and I don't have an ego, you just make comments to have a little dig which will obviously provoke a response, you pipe up and say you built a complete low 9 sec motor for the same as I charge for a bottom end, its either rubbish or your not giving a fair comparison at all.

You say you feel that my bottom ends/motors are pricey (which is fine, your entitled to your opinion) and then you say you can build a complete low 9 second engine for 19k, and as has happened every single other time I have tried to get the person to compare apples with apples or back up their claim, they shut down or bail out.

I'm not being silly here, you starting with your own donor engine, doing your own work and putting au19k into a motor is a totally different thing to a guy supplying a business absolutly nothing and leaving with a complete low 9 second motor, see my point?

Rob

I agree Rob but you have to remember dirts balls are inflamed and this could be clouding his judgment

Lol, yeah thats probably whats happened.

I'm sure dirt will see where I'm comming from, you have to compare apples with apples or its a waste of time.

Donor engine or not RB30 bottom ends here are thrown out by my machine shop and the good ones are only selling for $100 each. Most of the parts are brand new so your arguement there is a very shallow one

ok your bottom end consists of RB30 block and crank = $100

forged pistons = $1500

Argo rods = $1500

Tomei oil pump = $2500

crank girdle/4wd adapter = $1000

Ross balancer = $800

9 litre race sump = $1250

engine bearings = $200

parts total = $8750 and thats being rather fair on some of the prices $19000NZD is around $15000AUD

so you charge $6250 to machine and assemble a bottom end.

Croydon Racing who are known to be quite expensive dont charge that for an entire engine build!

Like i said Rob i find it excessive as do many others but thats not to say what you are doing is wrong...Its like one person finding a $400 pair of running shoes expensive and other finding it a bargain.

Best of luck to you mate. I wasn't having a little 'dig' as you put it...i think my comment i highlighted in my last post would have told you that wasn't my intention. You really did feel a need to defend yourself though didn't you....now where's Boosted when you need him...lol

paul, you raise a valid point about crd.

it is interesting to see how prices vary across workshops that specialise in gtr's - i guess that comes with the package,

i.e. owning a high performance car incurs high performance costs

anyway back on topic.

We did 535kw on 1.7bar 98 BP pump fuel with same turbo kit on a Trust 2.7ltr kit.

on VP109 with 3 more PSI we did 572kw... and as Paul would know i sold it to buy an OS Giken RB30 for more torque...

Good numbers on PUMP fuel. Should do well with GAS and Race fuel, Robs cars have done some good times on the RB30 blocks with stock cranks. I originally discussed my intentions with Rob about purchasing one but decided on giving the more expensive alternative that good friends John and Keir use a try.

All the best and post up your next tunes.

Well done.

Awesome power. Apart from dragging, are you going to track it?

I think what R.I.P.S do is great value.

I got a rb26 rebuild quote from a Certain Really well known Dyno tuning shop in sydney and almost fell off my chair,

$15k AUD, and that gets you no more power than one has to start with.

Lol... subtle

First of all i only brought a block with billit main caps, girdle and sump adaptor fron rob at rips thinking the same as you Paul but let me tell you add all my own parts and machining up and Robs on the money.

rb30 block and crank $100

argo rods $1600

je custom pistons $1500

tomei oil pump $2500

ati dampner $1000

timing belt $100

bearings $250

high volume sump $1500

main studs $350?

new tensioner and idler $250? cant remember exactly

n1 water pump $325

lower timimg belt pulley{ on crank } $90

machining of block consisted of the following:

line bore

deck

bore and hone

grind crank

cryo crank

nitride crank

cryo block

fit new welch plugs

all of the above cost me $2600

That all adds up to $12165aud correct me if im wrong.

Some of you may say you can get parts cheaper but thats what i paid for everything.

Rob sells his 4wd billit main cap bottom end i saw on this thread for under $17000nzd

convert $17000nzd to aud today and you will pay $13693aud for this bottom end right?

Which leaves us with $1528aud difference between robs complete bottom end and my comlete bottom end.

But i havent allowed for a sump adapter so $1528aud for billit main caps and a chromemoly adapter plate

really is DIRT cheap. Have you seen his 4wd billit main cap bottom end?

There is 75 fasteners holding the bottom end together.

So my friends im happy to say that Rob is on the money with his complete bottom ends and as for him doing things 3 times as slow as Paul well i think Rob has run 8.40S and Paul has run 9.90s. ha ha

Again i would like to thank Rob for all his help and wouldnt hesitate recomending him to anyone

Paul

ok..fair call..i was wrong.

no need to be a smartass though...nether of us lowered ourselves to that.

and your times are??? Care to race???

ill send my synchro box and low mounts to Rob and see if he can run 9's with them...lol

Edited by DiRTgarage

Ive actually run 7s but not in a gtr ha ha

I wasnt being a smart ass Paul sorry if i came across like that all im saying is i thought the same as you and most others, that $17000nzd is a bit rich but when you work it out its not really.

I will race as soon as my box is done im not scared ha ha

Mate I can't imagine, I'd say most of us would struggle not being a bit short with people regardless of whether it was deserved or not. Hope it all settles sooner rather than later, wouldn't wish that on anyone

In regards to Rob running a GTR with an H-pattern box down the 1/4, have you seen his first and only effort at running this R34 GTR at the drags?:

what hurts more is having a working car and not being able to drive it...no fun for me.

What box are you running Paul ?

If Rob didn't run marginally quicker than me in a car that had more power than the 240 then id be the 1st to be surprised. It looked good...nice run Wardy.

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
    • Perhaps the answer is... more jacks!* *proper jacks must be used.
    • I NEVER think about using a scissor jack unless there is absolutely no other alternative. f**king things are dangerous, annoying and stupid.
