currently i only have basic mods (cat-back exhaust and apexi pod with a cai) im hopeing to go turbo after i get off my p's but im wondering if i should get a safc now.

Does anyone have one with simuler mods and what kind numbers did you gain out of it? or any other computer systems i should look at? (i have heard the emenage can cause some troubbles with the n/a's) Im looking at just a piggy back system as like most i dont have a huge budget.

Im thinking i will rebuild my rb25de for turbo but i havent done any more modding yet as im not exactly sure what will be compatable for na or a turbo application.

cheers panda.

if you are looking to turbo later, why not start with at least something with the capabilities of the emanage blue. The SAFC isn't going to yield a lot of gains for you now, and won't allow the same level of tuning as a emanage blue will. Also depends though on whether you throw in a DET ECU or keep the DE ECU.

If you had extractors then you would gain a bit out of a SAFC, but if you're planning on going turbo later, then extractors are going to be a waste in the long term.

Remember that tuning isn't cheap! Nor is installation of piggyback ECU's. For the little gains that you'll get now, then re-tuning later when you turbocharge, save your dollars, buy a emanage or similar when you need/benefit the most from it.

If you have money to spend on getting more performance, look at suspension or better still brake upgrade before the turbo.

is the emenage a stand alone system? how much does the emnage go for? i figured i would get a piggy back now and put it on the det computer when i convert it because i have heard that even with a piggy back the de computer doesnt run well with a turbo.

i have allready done most of the suspention ie. tien coil overs, solid bushers etc. I need a new set of rims anyway so i was thinking i would do the 5 stud convertion with the det brakes just because it make rims allot easyer to find and who worldnt want better braking. thats why its not so bad that i have to wait to go turbo, means i have time to build the rest of the car before the motor.

You're definitely on the right track if you're preparing everything else for the turbo, you definitely can't go wrong doing that, I done the same :(

Question, do you have an auto or manual? If auto you're going to be limited to piggy back. If you have a manual and you can afford a stand alone unit I recommend that. At least you'll save a good few hundred on install.

I got my eManage Blue for $320 (unused private sale on eBay), the harnesses were $70 each through Perfectrun.com.au, that is the optional fuel injector harness and ignition timing harness. Install couple of places quoted around $300-350 (there are a lot of wires to splice in). Allow $400-600 for tuning as well, whether that be eManage or Apexi PFC.

You can see how the emanage can easily cost $800-950, and if you look at a eManage Ultimate, you're getting close to PowerFC prices which can be swapped over and with a turbo you'll have a base map to start with.

btw..i'm running an eManage Blue with the RB25DE NEO ECU.

depends on how hardcore you wish to go? if you're looking for a clean up because you're running a little rich or just want the car to run a little smoother/more economical then i'd say go for the SAFC. if you have some plans a little later down the track then fork out for a replacement ecu and not a piggy back system.

ok, well i am looking for power and one day plan on a minimum 200rwkw. so i guess its clear i need a stand alone system. i asked before but didnt get a reply, is the emenage stand alone or a piggy back?

allso what would be the best compramise between price and a good product? i have never really looked into computers too much. everyone i know just oppted for a remap.

    • And if you want more power, more reliably, and cheaper, go get the Aussie RB... The 4L Barra and put that in instead.
    • No cats will keep discolouring the rear bar. Sends white paint a weird yellow stain. Cut and polish normally gets it out, but you'll be doing that every fortnight I found.
    • Both heads will be equally reliable or unreliable depending on what you do to them.  Stock the RB26 head will flow more. You have access to the stock intake ITB manifold on the RB26 cheaply which flows really well(1000hp+).   Arguably more aftermarket support for RB26, though in Aus we love our RB30 SOHC heads too.    The only downsides to the RB26 head is if you have a VL commodore and want to keep the SOHC look.  Where you may have an issue is drilling out the rb30 block for the bigger head studs but if you are building a big power motor you'd probably put bigger studs on the SOHC head too.  This is just about finding a good machine shop, sometimes easier said than done.  RB30 head worked can make big power just like a Rb26 head, so really it actually more comes down to what your preference is for your car.  People now even making billet versions of both.
    • 2630s work perfectly well. There is something to be said for just using the 30 head, as it saves all the pain of the conversion, still makes tons of power, still sounds cool, etc etc. 2630 will obviously make more power again, but the differences are not stupidly big. It really depends on whether you're racing for sheep stations or not. If it's dead serious, then it's a 26 head. If it's just for fun, it could go either way. But the 26 head and the effort to get it set up, etc etc, is part of the fun.
    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.
