Hey Guys,

I just had my exhaust quietened down a bit - no EPA notice but it was probably only a matter of time. I had a lot of droning in the cabin and a very annoying resonance particularly at 100kmh! Even between 90-110k really.

If you want a resonator or system made up so that its fairly quiet [legal] but flows very, very well - go down to Mufflers Now in Oakleigh [1611 Dandenong Road, near FTG road] and talk to Matt. Phone is 9563-1166

I had some custom piping made up by Matt and a different muffler fitted [still kakimoto ;-)]. These guys know skylines and turbo cars very well. A very professional job indeed and for a nice price!

On the other hand if you have a stock exhaust, these guys can make up a system so that it increases performance and sounds great. They are also starting to do Front pipes and the price is approx. $220 fitted for 3inch mandrel S/steel piping - I will be getting one of these very soon.

Matt at Mufflers Now used to work at DAALDER exh. in Box Hill, quite a few people know him from there and he is the guy patenting his own resonator design [which is gauranteed to be 90db and still flows nicely] and specialises in Turbo cars [inc skylines / vl's etc].

Cheers,

Dale.

Your post may confuse people Pushead - YES it is the same Matt but NO he is not at DAALDER boxhill anymore - he is running his own shop now :)

Thanks.

I can vouch for Matt too! He also built/fitted my exhaust system with his 'special' resonator, which EPA'd at 87db - Fantastic !!!

My ride, being an auto, would have a lot more drone with any other 3" system, but Matt's one is VERY quiet around the 100Kph mark & up. At least my gf doesn't complain about getting headaches in my car anymore.

I fully recommend his work to anyone who wants a nice flowing system, with none of the drone !

Cheers,

C.

I am not sure mate but he did say that he was "NOW" at the new place and to let everyone know he has moved - so even if he owns both, which I am not sure of, he is personally only at Mufflers Now in Oakleigh!

nar he doesn't own the boxhill store. they don't even want to mention him there. so i'm pretty he left them to open up his new store. just a bit of a pain in the ass to drive to oakleigh now. but he always gives me good prices so i'll just go and see what this new place is like.

yeah matt is a great bloke but he screwed me around with my r34 front pipe that's why i ended up getting the Blitz one.

anyways, not sure if has r34 parts now.. i had been chasing him for months.

anyways, my genuine blitz s/s front pipe is still for sale offer standing @$250, if he can't get his hands on r34 parts.

I would be surprised if he did screw you around Sid. Do you mean he couldnt get the parts you wanted? Or couldnt make them? Or said he would do something and didnt? Please let me know what happened as I am keen to know myself.

Saying he is a great bloke but screwed you around in the same sentence doesnt really make much sense to me.

I know Matt is working on doing R34 Front / Dump pipes, but like many Exhaust places in the country there is just not enough demand out there and the knowledge of our cars is thus limited for them to know how do it. He already has the front pipe for 32/33/34 afaik but just not the dump pipe off the turbo...for 34...yet!

And for people with 33's "exhaust pipes, mufflers, dumps, fronts etc dont always fit on to 34's. Along with a lot of other parts. Otherwise we would be using them already ;)

Give them a call [9563-1166] - I didnt ask about prices for a full turbo back but they can do it.

The resonator is designed by Matt, I believe its like a spiral design that helps the air flow but keeps the turbulent noise to a minimum. Approx $200-220 fitted.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just came back from the muffler shop. Matt was sick so he wasnt there. But the worker there, Shane looked after me. Unfortunately he couldn't give me that much of a good price, coz some boss lady was there watching. I got the catback done.

They seem pretty good there and care for the car, did some good welding.

nismoR34, u got a f*cken bargain on the work done with ur car!

Matt said he would also look after friends / people that I send down there. I plan on calling him this week [regarding a front pipe] and I will take the issue up with him - unless you got a good price and you are happy? So let me know, via PM if you want.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
