charlie22
Hello Ladies and Gents, I went through some roadworks the other day and they were putting tar on the road and guess what is now all over my front bar and side skirts? Anyone know of any good products to get it off? Cheers. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/265068-blody-roadworks/ Share on other sites

toddlls
When I was working on a road crew we used to use unleaded fuel to remove bitumen from paint work. The secret is to clean it off with the fuel then wash it immediately with car wash to stop the fuel staining the paint work then re-apply polish over freshly washed area. Others have recommended orange based cleaners but we found them to be a bit abrasive and prone to scratching duco Good luck mate T Another method is to press ice to bitumen as to freeze it then pick it off with fingernail-like chewing gum on fabric type method Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/265068-blody-roadworks/#findComment-4528655 Share on other sites
GTR-32U
Always found Kero was really good at removing tar and other shit that carwashes struggle to get off. i always washed my cars once a month with kero and water. other weeks I used carwash Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/265068-blody-roadworks/#findComment-4528684 Share on other sites
Johnny
ill give a plug to bug and tar remover, the turtle wax brand as you put it on and it seems to break it down very quickly. The chemical formula for Kero is not too different from the tar you're trying to remove! Analogy:- To remove red wine stains, you use white wine first! Kero does not harm the paint. But it does remove most waxes. I stand corrected by Polish Doc if it's a wrong approach. Afterwards, you shouldn't need polish (unless there are scratches) - just rewash & then, rewax.
