Sump Baffles...

Hi Lads,

At the risk of sounding like an absolute dummy, I have to ask:

What are sump baffles? What do they do?

They stop the oil "sloshing" around in the sump during high cornering loads and minimise the chance of the oil pickup sucking air.

Do a search for "sbs".

sump baffles are trapdoor hinges arranged in a rectangle in the bottom of your sump, around the oil pickup point. they open allowing oil to flow towards the pickup but if cornering/braking G-forces try to move the oil away they snap shut, and trap some oil near the pickup. Helps prevent oil starvation if you're going nuts on the track or whatever
