My old logitech headset was getting a lot of use, and for $55 a few years ago it did pretty well so im certainly not complaining.

However considering the global financial crisis is having a zero impact, i thought i might as well lash out on some of the deals you can get online at the moment for PC bits considering the market slow up. :)

So after I did a lot of homework (as i do before i buy anything, for anyone) i eventually settled on the below...

Auzentech Forte 7.1

Some headphones to go with it

Sennheiser HD 555

http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/home_...adphones_005342

The headphones are super comfy. The logitech's were lighter, no question... but while the Senn's are heavier, they dont really feel like it once on ya nogg'in

What i found interesting in my travels, was that the Senn 555's are very similar to the Senn 595's...

They are so similar i found out, that with a very very minor modification (removing a piece of foam), they are exactly the SAME as 595's, but they are $100 less at most places i checked out. Thats a fairly expensive piece of foam :(

Here is the link for the mod - i'll have a go at it myself in a few days

There is also another mod - for better bass if you have a dig around Head-FI (im a habitual modifier after years of playing with cars... standard is never good enough lol)

Im yet to give it a full test for games and so on... however the brief 30mins before i left for work was nothing short if awesome.

Sound difference is just on another level.

Im not audio expert, infact my ears are not exactly the best by my own admission, the sound difference though is still fken amazing :)

The Auzentech Forte also has various processing settings for games/movies/music and so on so i'll give that a whirl over the next few days.

Considering i listen to a LOT of music and watch movies a fair bit on my PC i think this could well be the best parts i've purchased yet!

There is also a "prelude" version of the S/C, next step up from a Forte, but most people seemed to be of the opinion its not worth the $$ unless your really going for ultimate quality in a home theatre style setup!

If anyone is similar to me with music/movies/games on the PC and so on, go and grab a good soundcard.

Nice choices. Auzentech would be my pick of cards too and Sennheiser are very high quality in build and sound reproduction but they do have a big mark-up. When I got my Sennheiser PC350 headset marked at $270...saved $90 with my mates employee discount :). The most noticeble differences I find between some headphones in general is their bass frequencies, with movies in particular as some just lack that extra deep punch or seem to skip a frequency range.

    • We used Knox Drive shafts years ago when we were doing gravel rally, good guy but I heard it had changed hands? He's got a lot of stuff and is miles cheaper than GJ and so on. He used to have a lathe setup with a MIG torch on the tool holder so he could get the uni welds just right, quite a clever guy. I just got a driveshaft done for my sequential installation and that was through Balancing Services Australia in Preston, they did the Gibson cars in the old days. New genuine CV's, billet yoke, new centre bearing and chome moly shaft was $2k.
    • Thanks for sharing that mate, I've got a couple of spares on the shelf but all the unis are tight....will give old mate a shout. BTW are you sure it wasn't just a $400 paint job? Any detail of what they replaced (cut/reweld?)
    • Yeah I saw that about the US Q50 recently, apparently it was shown to Inifiniti dealers (probably to help with their depression about the cars they can sell). Seemed like a really obvious step to me, the platforms are very similar in many ways. Even if there aren't many people who actually put the money up it should really help with image/reputation. What hasn't been clear anywhere if that is a V38 model of if they are just going to add the trans as an option in a new model year. What they did with the Z from 370z to "Z" is just weird so I'd be surprised if they released this as a V38. Great news for me to have an option; it is far from confirmed that I can get any decent track sessions through the auto so having a manual I can swap to is great.
    • I ordered it this morning, I'll disassemble it post pic's and info following delivery.
