A car running 10's isn't exactly a street car. You also need a helmet at the drag strip, and i assume pass scrutineering ? (Not sure don't drag)

A full cage is illegal because there is a cross bar that runs next to your head and you don't wear a helmet on the street so its a possible head injury waiting to happen.

Half cages are legal, have to get the car engineered as a two seater technically but its not a huge problem.

For most defects there are reasons, and there are exceptions to the reason a lot of the time. Which is why you can get the car engineered to allow a car to have mods that are otherwise illegal.

If people decide they don't want to get their car engineered then obviously its gonna be defected.

Not having a go but you have to see it from both sides dude.

i rcn theres more of a chance to get stickered when your driving home late at night with not much other cars around then in a cruise, you gotta be pretty unlucky to be the one to get pulled over out of all the cars on the cruise, just dont be a hero

Hey man i hear ya.

i understand all the reasons behind the legalities of roll cages. Just don't like them as they assume alot. ie the height of the driver, the position of the seat and the type of resraint used. Some mining companies insist on roll cages in light vehicles before they are allowed on to site. Some of these like hilux and Ford courier are smaller inside than a skyline. These vehicles are also required to be road registered. And no a helmet is not required.

My GTR is rego'd as a 2 seater as it was orginally licenced with the half cage. But you'd be surprised at how much stiffer the chassis is with the full cage in. Once i tried it i couldn't go back.

Once E85 comes out in WA, engineering a 10 second, late model car for the street is theory should be possible.

Yeah i see it from both sides but doesn't mean i can't complain about it. :)

Dude at 37 i'm one of the oldest owners that hang out on SAUWA. believe me i drive like a nanna on the road. If fact the best thing i ever did was fit a large single. It's so laggy i can drive all day off boost.

This doesn't mean i'm not stereo typed as a hoon because of what i'm driving.

^^ there are a few older boys around than u champ :) and driving equally awesome high hp cars (not talking about myself btw) full roll cage + hitting ur head etc is pretty lame considering technically its illegal to have a gauge mounted in the A pillar for the same reason..

Yeah but if your gauges are far enough down the a pillar, i.e. past the steering wheel, you can get permits for them.

It's like you don't need to have carpet but you have to have a headlining otherwise wires may start to fall down.

deep dish steering wheels are the go, then the problem will be reaching for the indicator switch

About 90% of rules and regulations might be yarns but there still rules, but getting defected for somethin small when u arent driving like an idiot is unlucky. My advice is cruise, cruise and cruise. If you get defected, think about it then. cos in the end ull end up stressing out more about staying within the rules then actually getting defected. Generally u should keep ur car in good condition anyway tho not because of not getting defected but to keep ur car from stuffing up and to keep u safe. But shet happens sometimes, just enjoy ur car, isnt that why u bought it? If its too hard to not be scared of the police, buy a nice roadworthy volvo and drive with confidence lol

Goodluck mate.

I'll go on 2-3 cruises a week, and maybe see a cop once a month. At most, all they'll do is drive through and make sure everyone is behaving. No one says anything to them unless neccessary.

It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, come along to one, run one leg, and see if you enjoy it. I highly doubt your car is as highly modified as Paul's is, so if you get stickered, no big deal.

ive taken my car on four cruises since its been going with no dramas....and thats running high mount turb, external gate, dog box, cage, and f**k all of an exuast and pushing near 500hp atws.......i jst pick when to to be a dick head and have a god look around b4 i open it up.......all so the outside of my car looks stock.........ive had a cop stop behind me at the lights before and with the twin plate its sorta hard to get off the line quietly and smoothly at the same time and still mr plot just cruised by me and didnt even look twice.....plus my car makes no induction noise of any kind till high revs...

Lol you're talking to 'Public Enemy' like he's never been on a cruise before... nawww you cute little kids.

ROFLMAO

I work in Mining, i think i had a maximum of 6 weeks in Perth for the whole of last year. Not a lot of time to cruise, especially when you include time in the workshop.

Gotta a few things i want to finish up on the GTR, ViPec to install and tune, the 19's have recently been painted and need to be refitted, OS giken 5 speed, then i might venture out a bit more often. :D

Public cruises can be an issue due to a minority of hero's showing how cool they are by spinning the wheels at every take off etc....or prooving how tough they are by mouthing off at the police who attend to see whats going on.

We do SAUWA members only cruises....good bunch of guys all driving Skylines (with the odd Stagea, silvia and 350z), no hero's and no problems from the boys in blue.

In fact on a members cruise if that was to happen, the person involved would be told to leave immediately!

the skyline club hasnt held a cruise for a while and even in smaller cruises if a person missbehaves then they are told to leave. try the cruises out of the skyline club they rarely have cop trouble

Well since you asked so nicely.. I guess I could take it out cruising for you while you're away

But you're paying the fuel bills!

haha thanks for the offer, there are some bloody top blokes on this forum that would do anything to help out a fellow member.

My dad takes it for a spin every now and again. He's pushin 60 and loves it when it comes on boost in 3rd.

Damn straight you can still have fun in a stagea.. I got some tein coilovers and 320awhp, because of the size and weight of the thing it actually has the same white-knuckled fear on a hills run that my 32 does ;)

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
    • Bloody apprentices! 🙄
    • Not sure yet.  Was considering speedtek because it was rated to 800hp, but when I did some research about him I don't think I will go for that🤣 So maybe giken gear set, but I'm afraid it won't be strong enough🙄
