jack up your car. spin which ever wheel it is and look for a nail or what ever it is that went through the tire. usually 20 bucks to get filled if the tyre is and has good tread.

A different way to find where the air is getting out is to fill the tyre with air and put it into some water, like a pool. Look for bubbles, that is where the leak will be :D

IMO, don't skimp on tyres. They are the only things holding the car to the road.

As for car brands, I have heard that Michelan are pretty good, but use a soft compound so tyre life is not as long as other tyres (which is not always a bad thing :D ) If you where to become a paying member of SAU NSW you would be able to order some discounted Federal 595SS, which in my opinion are a great compromise between performance, wear and price :D

If you don't like my advertising, brands like Bridgestone, Kumho, Toyo and Continental are all good. The only brand of tyre that I have tried and never will try again is Nexen... spinning 4th in the wet on stock power without using the clutch or steering wheel is not something I enjoy :D

Whilst your sister's mate is at B.Jane, he'll put that wheel in a 'H2O bath' for you for free & then fix up any puncture so long as it's not through the wall. To get that wheel submerged, they'll use a hydraulic arm to push it down!

If it's simply a valve, just put some spit onto the valve and see if you can find bubbles.

IMPORTANT: Take the valve cap off first.
