any thoughts on where to go for a post trackday beer + schnitzel to wait out peak hour traffic to home?

need a pub that would suit most people (northern & southerners) and has a decent car park.

Kim, Dave and I usually hit up a local place (for me) called Chenzos, but I'm not sure if they are still there, last time we went they were closed... odd. ANYHOW, I think somewhere on the way back, perhaps a pub in Gawler or even the one in Mallala (had decent food and service was... nice) are both ideas too. Either way, I'll definitely be there

hey, im getting my ass bleached at your request mr! you never appreciate anything i do. :/

Yeah, I can never be pleased...

Kim, I know it's out of the way kinda sorta but if you go the back way home from Gawler, you can go home via some nice hill roads, pop out at Tea Tree Gully and head to the pub there too. Great meals, ample car parking, nicely priced. Then it's really a hop skip and jump from there to North East Rd. Just throwing out suggestions

mawson lakes hotel is kinda on the way back into the city (and they have massive schnittys at that)

that's not a bad suggestion - it would have large flat carparks and is not too far off the road the southern guys would take to go home. I've tended to go to the Tap Inn in Kent Town and The Maid (and Magpie) over the years but that may not suit the northern guys. so Mawson Lakes would be a good compromise (and not too far from Mallala for a drink)

I am hoping that some of the more mechanically minded may be able to help me out for this track day. As many of you will know from my constant whining my R32 GTR has been off the road for 17 months now. It was released to me briefly for the last driver training day and I have organised to get it again this Thursday 19 Nov and return it the following Tuesday 24 Nov. The car has not finished being corrected/fixed after it was 'repaired' but the front end should be done.

What I need help with is completely flushing & bleeding the brakes, fitting hoses to the oil catch can & a general look over the car to make sure that it is ok to take to Mallala. I have called 4 workshops but they are all booked out and can not get to my car until after the track day. I should point out that I have NO mechanical knowledge and due to injuries from crashes have limited physical ability to work on cars. Obviously I would compensate anyone who helped me with $ or alcohol or anything (non-sexual) that they would like. PM me if you're able to help out. Cheers.

id be willing to give you a hand mate (ive got the 21st off), and im sure luke (heslo) would be more than happy aswell.

maybe i can borrow that gtr seat of yours at the same time. :(

Thanks for the offers guys (and the call Kim) but I managed to speak with John Keen and he'll fit the GTR in at Southern Hi-Tech sometime on Thurs & Fri.

Dave - do you want me to pull out that R33 GTR driver's seat?

Fingers crossed... this heat would kill my car. What's the story if it's 40+ degrees on the day? We still go out but at a slower pace or what?

the event will run in rain, hail or shine. if it's still hot, then we'll end up going slower (turbos more so than the NA guys) and it is certainly more interesting in the wet. either way, the point of the day is to learn car control and improve your racing lines around the circuit.

so, one week to go! don't forget to read the recommendations that are listed on your receipt from John Bowe Driving re metal valve caps, appropriate clothing, no spectators, cancellation procedure, etc.

no helmet = no drive

For those who have been out on one of these days before, the following is good revision. For those who haven't, this will be useful in your preparation. This list has been compiled from the group's experiences over the last couple of years, so ignore the recommendations at your own peril.

Mandatory: (Not Negotiable. DON'T HAVE = CAN'T DRIVE)

* full face / open face helmet (MUST HAVE) - motorcycle helmets are fine, Australian Standard AS1698 helmets are preferred minimum

* long sleeved shirt (cotton/non-synthetic material)

* long pants (no shorts!)

* metal tire valve caps (if you don't have them, then start looking to buy now)

* increase tire pressure by 8-10psi for street tires

* full tank of fuel (98RON recommended)

Rationale: higher tire pressures mean stiffer sidewalls, so less deformation during cornering. We recommend starting high (usually 38psi cold for 17" tires) before leaving Adelaide as you can always let them down to the desired levels when you're at Mallala - there aren't any tire pumps at the track. Long sleeved clothing will protect you a couple of seconds more in case of fire and cotton won't melt like synthetics will. If you have a racesuit or Nomex clothing, you're welcome to wear it - those who laugh at that stuff won't be laughing when they're on fire.

Recommended:

* thin soled shoes (eg. Puma motorsport range - Future Cat / Speed Cat)

* driving gloves

* cap/hat (to save you from having helmet hair when you're out of the car!)

* sunscreen + Aeroguard

* tire pressure gauge

* fire extinguisher (secured)

* tool kit / socket set

* wheel chocks (leave handbrake OFF after lapping)

* octane boost

* extra fuel (enough to get to nearest BP Gawler or BP Bolivar 35km away)

* remove loose objects from vehicle interior

Rationale: You will get better pedal feel and control with driving shoes rather than work boots. Your palms will get sweaty in the heat, so driving gloves help you to grip the steering wheel better. There's no shade on the track and the sun is pretty harsh out there, so protect yourself with some sunscreen. If it's a hot day, there will be hundreds of flies at Mallala and they're bloody annoying, so don't forget the Aeroguard! Hopefully you won't have to use a fire extinguisher, but it will be handy in case someone else is in trouble nearby. The tool kit is useful for tightening things up in case they fall off or hoses pop off (it has happened to a few of us before). And DON'T use your handbrake when parking in the pits after doing hard laps - it may fuse to your rear brakes if they're too hot or you'll leave an imprint of the hot pad on the rotor at the very least. Octane boost is a good safety measure. The fuel pump at Mallala may not be available on our day, so best to bring an extra jerry can of fuel to top up at lunchtime. The turbo charged cars will be thirsty and you want to prevent low fuel starvation when cornering by not having a an empty tank.

my car is finally ready for this trackday - a big thank you goes out to John (Marvey Tech) for rewiring my battery cut off and thermo fan in the searing heat yesterday. his workshop is definitely still next door to Morpowa and i got to have a look at Simon's 2J racecar before he went out to Mallala again that day (crazy in that heat).

John will also be joining us out at Mallala next week with his S13 for a bit of grip practice :banana:

Did a little bit of googling for my own personal benefit for the time when I am prepared to track the car :

http://www.gmpracingproducts.com.au/racewe...ewear-racer.php

These guys have race suits, balaclavas, racing gloves and nomex socks, racing shoes

and these guys http://www.bsmsport.com.au/ecommerce/index.php?productID=189 have a CAMS starter kit, with stickers, fire extinguisher, first aid kit and some other crap like a hammer?? for around the $130 mark

also, ISC @ http://www.isc-warehouse.com has the metal valve caps for $20 and tyre pressure gauges as well as a bunch of other goodies, check em out

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
