My paint is ok, but there is the odd chip here and there and spot where rust forms, and 10 y/o paint is always gonna look a bit tired.

The paint is factory.

So my question is, if I get a full re-spray (done by someone decent) how is it gonna look? I mean will it look ok around the window seals and stuff? Or dodgy?

Now I understand you can't realistically do inside the doors and stuff, not that I want a show car, but my car is white and it would look retarded if say I got a black re-spray wouldn't it? Just messy at those hard to reach spots?

What prep to I have to do? Can I just sand down those spots where paint is chipped or cracked? Treat any superficial rust and sand/scrape it off? Or do I need to fully remove the old paint? That would be a massive job.

I was thinking of a re-spray to white pearl. My logic is that a) I like that look b) it won't look too noticeably bad inside the door and other spots where old meets new?

Thoughts/advice?

As long as you do door jams you'll be fine, its only when you open the boot or engine bay that you'd notice its resprayed different colours...

You dont need to sand back the whole paintjob if your respraying the same colour but just adding pearlescent basically take off the clear coating really...but still you'd need to prep the whole car

I'm currently in the same situation having rust spots here and there as well...was going to do white pearlescent but decided to change colour instead, so more work stripping paint back to metal haha

what's the alternative, pulling out the engine to spray the engine bay and pay an extra $1000-$2000 just for that ? I wouldn't bother ..who cares what it looks like under the bonnet as long as it's not dirty or rusted

you'll want to remove all the rust, and if you do a closed door respray to a totally different colour it will indeed look silly.

the white pearl is a good idea.

grab an orbital sander and a shitload of pads and go for it. have a can of primer ready for when you sand thru to metal (to remove your rust), spray over any exposed metal or it will rust in a few hours/overnight depending on moisture in the air and dew.

i did a closed door respray at home on my 180, went from dark green to matt black, doesnt look too bad, but then again my standards are pretty low

a nice refresh would be good , just make sure all rust is removed as other suggested, i wouldn't do engine bay if you going same color as car and if you on budget

Is it advisable to do it with windows out? Is that a major job?

I'm a painter by trade and nowadays removing the windows isn't a necessity with most workshops having a product called trimtape which slots in behind the window rubbers and pulls them away from the body so we can sneak paint into all the hard places. If you really are a purist just get the windows removed by national windscreens and tow it to the shop as workshops will charge you a decent amount for window removal. better yet do it yourself. it's not THAT hard aslong as you take your time and be extremely gentle.

subtle white pearls on white cars =teh hotnezz.

It's a shame your car is black and you wanted to respray it white. A black engine bay (and such) with a white exterior would look sweet I reckon.

no, actually a good palm sander is alot nicer to the panel than hand sanding.

if you sand it by hand your asking for trouble, the only parts of a car that should be hand sanded are where you've used highfill primers over body filler etc. even then hand sand over it with a hard block till its straight and smooth with 180-240 paper then go over that with a 400 gritt orbital disc, then go over that with a wet 1000 gritt disc to remove all the scratches.

im getting my car resprayed at the moment

its silver

they quoted 4000

to fit a full body kit and respray the whole car including engine bay, door jams bonnet and boot

if your keeping the same colour for your car a respray should cost 3500 +

    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small.     • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
