Only made a new thread because i couldnt find exactly what i was after in a search

My new 31 project is going to be a grip car. the 20 i pulled out of my old drift shell is still alright, but otherwise stock (was around the 160rwkw mark with stock turbo and un-remapped ecu). For now its staying standard (injectors, internals etc) except for a re-map.

Having a forward facing plenum fabricated, as well as a new exhaust manifold. Would like to retain a T3 flange pattern for the turbo i choose. Im also intending on going external gated for ease of boost control

Heres where i get a grey area

Originally started down the lines of wanting a GT2871R merged with an R33 RB25 turbo (of which i have a blown 25 turbo sitting in my shed). Cost was a bit of a clincher, then was informed that the 3071R would be a better suited turbo (only coming on slightly later, and being T3 flanged)

Ive since had a read and i cant see where anything below a 3076 is T3, so im now somewhat confused again

What id like to achieve from this turbo:

For now, as im only running a 20 box, id like to limit the power around the 200rwkw mark until i can afford an RB25 box, then its maximising the power from there (bigger injectors i know, and possibly even cams too)

Ive assessed my situation and if this motor pops i'll spend the money getting this built into an RB24. I realise that will mean a definite need for a turbo upgrade (aside from many other things) so thats why i was looking at retaining a T3 flange for ease down the track.

So, let the discussions begin. Im a few months off buying a turbo, so will help to see the pros and cons right now

Thanks :)

Proper GT3071's do come in T3, look on here for traders, Slide sells them. Also places like horsepowerinabox.com, don't know many other places as I haven't been in the market recently.

I would suggest a highflow for your initial goal, but considering you want more power later, a 3071 is a good choice. You'll need to decide if you want internal or external gate. Internal is definitely better for mild tuning, but for over 250rwkw can cause issues. Internal makes buying the right turbo a lot harder so you'll need to do your research. I'd still recommend internal even considering your final goal of a 2.4L. On that note, a 3071 should still serve you fine for any upgrade you can do to a RB20, including stroking, that is unless you're searching for peak power in sacrifice of a good average power curve.

Thats the plan, to be able to use the same turbo in the interim (till a box upgrade) and then wind the boost up. saves un-neccesary spending. I know a few people have said that theres no need for external gate, but as you said, it makes it harder choosing the right turbo if you keep it internal.

At the end of the day, im aiming to put this car in time attack/sprint style events, the occasional hillclimb etc. I want good average power curve with fairly minimal lag and a good top end too. Peak power only wouldnt make a very driveable car on track (especially a torqueless 20)

Thanks for the positive information, helped steer me in the right direction thats for sure

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
