Well, pretty much I'm done screwing around with my v-spec ii r-tune.

I've only a few more niggles. You can see the missing center caps for one.

I need a new battery.

I'd like some coilovers that are up to Ohlins standards but are quiet.

Any recommendations?

Damn, how long have you been hiding this R1..?

I never knew...

Nismo R-Tune R1 + HKS V-CAM, the car must really go hard.

What suspension you got in atm?

I have Cusco's atm but I must say are quite hard, but I felt Tein's are quite good.

2530s so I think it is 375 kw at 24psi but I have all the original bits so can return

to stock some time.

driving around like a granny it is smooth and quiet which makes the violence when it

boosts even more freaky.

ohlins flag-r and they feel great, not hard or bone jarring, despite having 10lb springs.

but .. they rattle on the mounts @ the rear, and I'm told that is just the way it is. Not

audible when pushing it, just when dawdling around. It bugs me.

they were installed replacing s-tune, and two different places said I'd have to live with it, Croydon was one of them.

but on another forum someone said they cut out rubber from a mat and used that in the mounts

somehow! (not flag-r but other Ohlins). Would be a shame to give them up if its just one fix away

from being done.

^^ Nice!

Built / Imported from Nismo Factory yeah..?

Have you got the rear coil overs checked out to see what the rattling noise is?

All the Nismo S1 and R1 engine builds come right out from the Omori Factory and a special build plate can be seen on the right strut tower.

I'm so jealous Justin, I've never seen an R1 engine before but plenty of S1's. I'll pm you about meetup soon and talk about my coilovers I use.

Yeah I knew that, what I was trying to ask was did Moneypit import it directly from the Nismo Omori Factory or was it bought from an Import place.

I should have explained myself ;)

it is a zele car, the original owner had omori do the R1 conversion in 2003. I think if I was in Japan with a mint R34 I'd do the same. For the price you can screw up in far greater style by going to some tuning shop or another. And the car is very much still as tractable as it was stock.

I'm going to take it to tunehouse in a couple of weeks, and see what they recommend.

To get a 2nd opinion yeah..?

Ohlins are nice and IMO, no suspension should just rattle and have to live with it.

Yeah you put up with the bumpy / hard ride but noise wise, gota be checked out.

    • They're all horrible. X-Trails have had a nasty sounding 4cyl since forever, no matter what engine family it came from. The CVTs only made that worse. Then the whole Renault thing only made every Nissan that was contaminated by them even worse again. The only fun I've had in a X-Trail was having it blown sideways across a frozen Minnesota highway at 90 mph trying to make it to the airport to get out of the frozen hellhole of Hoth. Nearly died. Was great fun.
    • Alrighty, I'll have to grab a couple pics and type out something soon in another post. I haven't driven a modern X no, this would be the first one really. Yeah the rental boxes are always cheap as chips right? So I'd doubt that anyone was handing out GTs to go and abuse. But I s'pose I could be wrong for sure. New cars these days though? Pretty unimpressed with what I see now; 20 years and all that, like you said. It just kind of worked out to have these two cars now. I'm pretty pleased with that, don't need much else. I'm sure you lads are right about the temps and for sure, you wouldn't have much time to drive 'em down there if you all were like me. I do hate sweating all over the seats though😆
    • Let large companies that are making money off selling kits do the preliminary engineering for you. If they all do -10, then that is all you'll ever need.
    • Hopefully it ends up being something manageable, like a hone, rather than a full bore—it would be a huge relief if it’s not as bad as it looks. Hang in there; these setbacks are annoying, but it sounds like you’re handling it as smartly as possible.
    • At the end of the day, it’s all about understanding the odds and being comfortable with the potential cost, whether it’s horsepower on a build or chips on a roulette table. And I have to say, the Laine example made me laugh—some people really do embrace that carefree, “roll and see” attitude!
