Car has been off the road for months now and still can't get it started. Car cranks but doesn't fire. I've tried changing the crank angle sensor and the ecu with no improvement. I definitely have spark but no injector pulse. I can't get an auto sparky who is mobile and able to check it out so any help would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me diagnose the problem.

Cheers,

Steve

Ok I have checked for fault codes, only came back with 55 which from what I can gather means 'no malfunction' so I have no idea where to go from here. I have also checked the resistor which is fine, cas is definitely fine and I do have injector pulse its just too weak to show up with a noid light. Anyone got any ideas?

How good is the battery? (And just because it cranks the engine doesn't mean the engine will fire. ECU needs about 7 V to "stay alive").

Is the CAS in the correct position? It should align on a half-moon key in the end of the exhaust cam. If the key is broken, then the CAS can align anywhere.

Can you hear the injectors pulsing while engine is cranking? (Use a screwdriver as a stethoscope)

The battery is brand new, auto sparky checked it thats definitely fine. The cas alignment key is fine thats been checked I'm going to pull the rail out and make sure they are doing what hey should be doing tomorrow.

Ok, have you got spark happening? Have you got fuel coming out of injectors?

I have got around to pulling the fuel rail out, there's minimal to no fuel coming out of the injectors, I definitely have fuel pressure though and I definitely have spark. I have weak injector pulse (barely lights up a noid light). So I am guessing it has something to do with that. Any ideas what this could be, I've already tested the ecu and cas they are both fine. And I have done a diagnostic and come back with code 55-'no malfunction'.

Have you got the hoses on the right way?

Try this: switch ign to ON (to prime the pump and injector rail), then apply direct power to one side of the injector, other side of injector to earth. This should open the injector. Does fuel squirt out?

I'm heading away on holiday but ive got an auto sparky coming around in 2 weeks when im back so I'll get him to do this and ill let u know incase I don't get it sorted. I compared the injector pulse with my mates r32 gtr and his lghts up the noid light a fair bit brighter than mine does.

    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
