Hey guys just a quick one, I just bought a second hand 3" cat back. Will it bolt staight up to the compliance cat my car has or will I have to wait till I do the front pipe and 3" cat. It's a C34 series 1 if that matters.

I am fairly sure the exhaust will need SOME form of modification.

Sometimes the flanges are not in the right orientation. ( ie might require rotation )

Your compliance cat is probably not 3 inch is it?

If I were you I would save the stuffing around and just do the whole lot in one go ( if you can afford it that is )

When I put a JJ 3" bellmouth dump and a 3" X Force Cat on they fitted straight on, no mods. My 21/2" cat back had a 3"

flange. Just check your flanges first.

See thats weird , I think its a s1 thing! I fit the JJR dump and the orientation of the cat was off on the X axis as well as being " slightly downhill "

Well i got it on no worries, just had to hack the bumper a bit, i think i did a pretty good job! BTW it was a 2 beer job took 1 hour.

Good Job man :/

I find that after the 2nd beer you can NOT find any tools !

haha yeah, it wasn't hard at all, im just not looking forward to putting JJR front pipe and cat on when i get them. getting the bolts off the back of the turbo doesn't look easy at all especially when you don't have little jap hands lol.

Been there , done that :D

I find that if you have the right tools it helps a lot. ie having deep sockets, extensions, ratchet spanners

I really dont like 1/2 inch stuff anymore- far too clunky.

And you will need a metric allen key caus you cant get bolts in a couple of places.

check the sizes, they are M8 size thread, mine where a 13mm spanner but i know sometimes car manufacturers will use a 12mm head. then head on down to supercheap or bunnings and buy a couple of the bargain bin cheepo $1 spanners of that size. they come in handy for cutting down into stubby spanners for those hard to get to bolts on the dump. p.s. i know you can buy stubby spanners but some times they aren't stubby enough lol. also its easier than struggling with ratchet sets or a longer spanner set that you paid a bit for and couldn't bring yourself to cut them down.

from memory the stock dump is easy to remove, but bolting up then new 3" bellmouth/split dump can be frustrating as some of the bolt heads come really close to the pipe, it makes it hard to get a ratchet on them, hence the cut down cheapo spanners..

that sounds good, i'll be ording one very soon along with the cat, just gotta decide between the x-force cat and the catco one, any one have an opinion on that?

I have an X Force Hi Flow. Suits me fine.

Dont forget to check for broken, missing, mannifold studs.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
