Hey Guys,

i'm trying to rule out some things before i take it for a trip to the auto electrician

one of my Xenons is a different colour when i put new paired globes in,

and the dodgy one eventually blows / works intermittently after a month or so.

i was looking in my engine bay fuse box and i'm not sure if i have ALL the required fuses.?? (namely the H.I.D fuses)

have attached pictures :D

i'm also having a flickery issue with one of my climate control backlights,..

.i might get them to have a look at that too if i HAVE to take it to an auto electrician.

any help would be awesome!

Looks like you are missing 3 fuses to me mate (but I ain't no auto elec :) )

The two small 20A fuses in the two bottom spaces in the line of fuses in the centre and the big blue on at the bottom in the middle.

Is your HID setup factory or aftermarket Tom?

thats what i thought aswell... i wasn't sure tho so i thought i'd post

i can get all of them (including blue ones??) from autobahn etc yeah?? :)

its a factory HID setup i do believe! :D

re: flickering climate control lights, one of the globes may just be on the way out

an easy fix, i think there's a thread in the DIY section on how to replace the globes (maybe replace the lot so you don't have to pull it all out again!)

i used some Jaycar globes, and they worked fine (6 globes ~ $10)

maybe try that first before spending $'s on an auto elec

cool! i guess i'll have to try that for for the dash globes! :)

i've had a breif squiz.. if its not too hard to get the climate control unit out myself,

then i might have to have an afternoon doing that!

atm i'm not to bugged about those, but moreso on my headlights :D

Tomas, on my car, i dont have the factory HID's, they were removed during compliance. I have the 2 fuse's at the bottom of the box, HID RH and HID LH. but i dont have the 2 fuses mounted between the relay block on the right hand side, i just have a blank space between the relays.

check the fuse holders actually have terminals in them. the one your missing, AC100V, unless you have an auxiliary 100v A/C socket in you car, it will be blank. mine is, and if you look in the fuse holder you will see that there will be a terminal missing. i'd say the two you have mounted on the right between the relay's are the same two i have at the bottom of the fuse block. they are even labeled as the same thing. i dont know why they would be in a different spot though.

i have the same missing fuses and relay in my fuse box, my hids work perfectly

aha! well my HID's work fine mostly.. one of them just has a habit of blowing the globe after a month or so / works intermittantly!

new ballast on the dodgy one maybe?? anywhere i can buy the standard nissan ones from here??

i've seen a few slimline ballasts u can buy from places in AUS that look shmick...... like between 100-200$ :( not too bad!

i gotta get my amp / sub installed soon, so i'll try and get the auto elect to have "a look at it" while its in the shop! :O

mine is also a manual  so maybe thats why the boxes are slightly different in shape / placed!

also mine have fuses on the right (on the left on your diagram but not present in ur box at all.) that are 2x20A

i'm planning on having a fiddle tonight with the headlight again.. check everything looks okay, and swap out the globe for a different one!

I reakon your on to something with the ballast idea. I haven't had any experience on HIDs before but I do a bit of work with metal halide and high pressure sodium lighting, which are along the same lines. When the ballast fails on them the globe won't ignite properly, just emit a really dull blueish kind of light.

yeah i have a feeling its gonna be the ballast... put a new globe in last night, and it died by the time i got back to my place from an hour drive!!! :bunny:

it burns ALOT brighter than the other one too, which is probably why its burning itself out... i'll try and see how much it will cost to replace the ballast or even get 2 new matching ones... or even find a wrecked Stag!

frustrating :P but i need 2 headlights!

Hey Tom, how about replacing it with a cheap working second hand OEM ballast off Yahoo Auctions?

Should end up costing under $200 and if sent by EMS, you should have it next week. :bunny:

so i rang the guy about them. and their D2R kits are $130 includes everything i need :bunny:

"apparently" these are better than the standard Nissan ones aswell! (according to them)

what do u think Cam?

What do I think?

I think that the Ignis ones are probably better value than a second hand OEM.

On that Ignis site, it is one guys opinion of an item he sells so take from that what you will.

0.1% fail rate is pretty damn good, but I wonder what OEM HID fail rates are.

Dunno man, I know which way I would go... but it ain't my money nor is it my car.

As an aside, keep in mind that aftermarket HID's are a defectable item in Vic and whilst the OEM HIDs are questionable (no washer or self leveling), you are less likely to get done for them being that is how the car came from factory.

Ignis are cheaper and you get 2... OEM will just bolt straight in though.... hmmm

i might have sourced a pair of OEM in the stag parts classifieds :)

if i cant get the OEM, i'll just ride with the Ignis ones and hang on to my OEMs that came with the car!

in terms of the aftermarkets... if they dont look any different, how will they be able to tell if they're aftermarket if theyre tucked away like the OEMS?

(pretty much completely hidden from eyesite...)

i can just say they're factory OEM's ?? i havent had a run in with any police at all and i've owned it since last may! :)

( i have a feeling i'm a rolling defect anyway ) (i think the cops are just like BAHhh volvo)!

also i spoke to my servicer, and he's gonna have a look at it for me when i get it serviced next week :D

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!
