+1, went through both ways tonight to & from the cas.

Definitely there, I had just left work so I was quite sober

I'd stop and take some photos but it might look a bit sus :P will hook the video camera up though and go through slow like.

Wall mounted up high on the right hand side, big bulbous looking thing on a stainless shaft,

On friday the 1st & 2nd ones east bound set my detector off but the 3rd one didn't. This morning I went through both ways and none of them set it off (there were the same things on the west bound side, right hand wall).

I go through the tunnel every morning and afternoon so we'll see if any are on tomorrow..

They might not be radars but I find it highly suspicious, I have never seen or noticed them before and my detector has never, ever gone off in the tunnel. I'm also pretty certain it was the things on the wall setting it off as it stopped once I was ~20m past the 1st one and it started up again the same distance before the 2nd one, then stopped ~20m past it..

whatever they are, they arent issuing fines yet. The government has to publish a notice in the government gazette before it can use a new speed detection device against motorists. the only fixed device that is currently gazetted is the new combination redlight/speed cameras.

Quick google search for "Graham Farmer Tunnel Speed":

Taken from www.mainroads.wa.gov.au Intelligent Transport Systems Strategy.

"Strategy 3.4 – Support Police enforcement

activities

a) Install Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel speed

cameras when required by the Police."

Judging by that document, it sounds as if police are able to setup speed cameras in the tunnel if and when they want.

They can't do you for speeding in the tunnel based on the camera footage because they don't have a proven scientific approach to proving it.

Just to run a quick theory by you on that. If the cameras are digital by the nature of the medium they record on, most lock to specific frame rates, for arguments sake 30fps.

Whats to say they can't simply derive how many 'frames' it takes you to cover a certain distance, say from one broken line on the road to the next? They can (with quite a decent accuracy) work out how fast you were going.

It's one of the reasons that speed cameras in my area have extra triangles drawn on the road now. They take several shots and it simply adds to the case (as usable evidence) in court.

All they need is a pre-determined distance and time (which is worked out by how many frames per second a video camera is recording at).

was it ka band? if it was just k band may have been a copper behind/infront maybe?

It was K band, if it was a cop then it was a huge coincidence that it went off next to two of the suspicious units..

I would imagine they will have to do a lot of testing to iron out the bugs before anything became operational.

OR

They are something completely different.. I had a mate try to tell me they were air monitoring devices

you mean those things that look like the silencer you can temp put in the end of an exhaust? they've always been there.

since before you were born

First of all, how can you have 2 first of alls?

Second of all these cameras were installed by the security guys who work for my company :) :). I can ask them the details of the "monitoring" but from what the cameras are they do not have speed recording in them.

P.S. They start out as white cameras and are sprayed black.

P.P.S. They are always heading down to sort out issues with the system. 2 of them were there until 2am a on Sunday morning I think.

Very interesting, but no-one knows what they are.. if they are air monitoring devices, why are they pointing at traffic?

    • Can you help!   Can you tell me a few places you got your Flex Fuel Kits installed in Sydney The only one I know of is Tunehouse. Thanks in advance!!!
    • Yea my thought was tighter engine when hot is more load a poor ground connection can't take. On that note, I had time to check my driveshaft verical alignment tonight, it's +2 and -2 at either end, so thats perfect and how I had set it up last year. What would be the easiest way to check horizontal alignment between my diff and transmission? I can think of a few ways but they're all complicated and I feel like I'm overthinking it. I'm hoping it's that as I can't see any other reason why I have developed driveline vibration since I put the motor back in.
    • Thank god. I thought I was the only one, nobody seems to mention this (cause nobody really goes this far in Sedan land). The car's track is 10mm wider at the rear, which explains why the rears sit a little further out for the same size wheels. There's not really many options in widebody land for sedans anyway - People will just use whatever came out of the box and then buy wheels/spacers to suit. To get it perfect you'll likely need custom wheels with custom offsets if you really want to get it perfect which is what I plan to do, but I also plan to utilize more of the inboard space for tyres at the rear... which is also something nobody ever seems to do.... OR my maths have failed me after 20,000 attempts and I'm about to make huge mistakes.
    • What colour is that?  A mate of mine went red/black on his SLR5000 tribute recently also.  And yes, also glad to see this still progressing albeit slowly.
    • found a company that makes a flat gauge face 3-d printed mounting base kit to eliminate the dished style gauges. if anyone else is looking to do the same https://www.dashfreaks.de/shop/flat-dials-holder-nissan-skyline-r34-gt-gtt/
