Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and turbos, so I'd really appreciate some help.

My 92 Prelude looks like it may be written off (kid in a 4X4 backed into me at Uni, he didn't see me behind him). Yeah, I drive a Honda... you can stop laughing now...

So anyways, I'm off my P's now and figured it's time to buy a turbo. I was looking at 32's and 33's when I was 18, but decided I should stick with something a bit slower until I was more mature.

So, what should I look for in a 33 GTS-T? I want something that has, or is capable of 200+ rwkw. Doesn't have to be high or even mid 200's, as long as it's over 200rwkw I think that would be plenty for me, considering my Prelude is/was like 140kw at the flywheel.

My budget is under 10k, and I see a lot of R33's in good nick (or at least they appear to be in good nick) on Carsales in this price range. However, most sellers obviously don't have dyno sheets of what power they have atw. So roughly what type of mods would it take to break 200rwkw in a R33 GTS-T?

3" Exhaust system

FMIC

Boost Gauge (I'd probs run stock boost for daily driving and go up to 12psi when I wanna have some fun)

Pod filter? Some people say they are overrated.

Anything else?

Do you recommend that I look for a car with a turbo timer?

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated after you have finished laughing at my n00biness (and my Prelude).

Cheers.

Thanks mate, I just read the whole thing. All 5 pages. Very helpful.

Does anyone have any advice in regards to the power I am seeking though?

Also, does anyone know of any dealers in Victoria (preferably Melbourne) that sell Skylines?

Cheers.

200rwkw is pretty much maxing out the factory turbo. Some cars get there some don't.. just depends on the condition of the car you buy in regards to engine/turbo and support components. From what i've seen, a full list of bolt ons will net you 200rwkw with standard turbo and anything more you need to upgrade turbo and make sure your engine is in good condition. By full list of bolt ons, i mean intake, turbo back exhaust and high flow cat, maybe a fuel reg or injectors, maybe a fuel pump, some kind of tunable ecu (nistune, pfc etc), larger cooler, coilpacks.

Don't forget you're gonna need upgraded sussy and brakes to handle the power increase and lastly the tires too.

I would prefer a car without the turbo timer (i just like things neat) but it may be good for you or not..depends how you drive and if you're fussed there is just one more defectable item on the car.

Be safe and have fun with it!

Mmk, so 200rwkw, thats about 270rwhp?

Thats pretty much the limit of a stock turbo so more than likely, you'll want one with an aftermaket turbo. (Or highflow)

Usual mods in order...

Exhaust

FMIC

Boost controller

Computer

Pod

Fuel pump maybe

Turbo timer is useful..

Awesome!

Thanks guys. Will definitely keep an eye out over the next month or so.

The inspector from JustCars is coming to assess my Prelude tomorrow, so hopefully I can get at least 5k for it.

Just another question. If I had a more or less stock R33, how much would it cost to do all of that? Parts and labour.

Cheers.

Yeah I am definitely getting the cars checked out by a mechanic before buying. Already had Dad speak to his mechanic, and he said if I can get the car to his shop he will only charge me $25 to check the car out.

I had a quick look on ebay, and a boost controller and TT should only set me back around $500. But then I'm guessing installation is the most expensive part. I'm hoping any R33 I buy will at least have an aftermarket exhaust.

I just hope JustCars pay me out now!!!! I'm getting too excited!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again Ten Four.

Edit: Also, just what kind of 1/4 mile time are you looking at with 200rwkw roughly?

I know there is a lot more to 1/4 times than kw, but just a rough guide. Coz I'd be rapped with mid 13's. Is 200rwkw overkill for that (I'll be shattered if it's not enough lol)?

    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
