To Rego Or Not To Rego, That Is The Question.

Hai Guise,

I'm Troy McClure, you might remember me from such films as Mark Webber Attacks 'nanny State', I Have a Yellow Fever from Wasteland or the award winning title Things That Make You LULWUT..

I have a custom Red R33 GTST sitting on my front lawn for the past 4 years and i have been contemplating on putting this thing back on the road but just couldn't seem to have have any time on my hand as i've been quite busy and had a handful of other things going on in my life. Ive decided to take a more relaxed approach in regards to work this season by having the weekends from my self this summer time.

I've got quite a looker of a R33 i must say. It's quite unique in its own way with the cosmetic mods i have done to it and its colour just stands out from the crowd.

It has the original s3 GTR projector/xenon head lights. Full gtr kit. Black large gtr front lip. Black gtr wing with red spoiler arches. BA XR8 bonnet bulge (it looks quite aggressive) and BA XR8 18" wheels that just sit in line with the wheel arches, giving it a tough look from the back.

Mechanically the only thing i have done to it is fit a thick stainless steel radiator. Didnt have time to complete what i had planned for this baby.

Now the question is, is it worth putting this gtr wanna be little red ferrari back on the road? Do you karnts go for cruises like you used to back in the hey days or is the crowd just disintegrated? What are the cruising scene now days? Are there much hassles from cops nowadays? Would i be pulled over even though i have no illegal mods coz frankly cbf with dealing with these punks..

surprise. you have a skyline!?!?!?!?

so far, i've never been purposefully targetted, but that's prolly because i don't drive like a dick, (i look around before putting my foot down)

so i say, by all means if you've got the time.

Mother of God... i just skimmed through Just Cars online insurance quote and i got $1300 for full comprehensive.

Why is it so expensive when i have my BA XR6 insured for $600?

Because its a BA XR6 barbs, parts are plentyful and cheap and they are mostly driven by families who obviously very rarely get into accidents. Weigh that against the R33 GTS-T current king of the "Hektik" cars for both wogs, wannabe wogs and bogans alike that are involved in accidents all the time and mostly driven by dickheads trying to be fully sick and pick up chicks, so naturally they get into a lot of accidents showing off to their mates. The main reason they are so popular now with those types of people is because on your lucky day you can have one for $5k so its very attractive to those who used to have VL turbo's.

Disclaimer: I know most of the people on SAU dont conform to the above description of the Skyline driver. And the above descriptions are based on my personal experiences of friends and acquaintances owning skylines and generally bouncing of limiter everywhere.

im supprised that a red car which has been sitting in a front yard for 4 years is still red!

but on the note of this topic... we could always do with another whale on the road!

    • Mixing things up - installed some leather recaros to match the leather seat covered rear seats. Interior looks pretty schmick now except for some slight wear on the steering wheel which I will monitor and address if it becomes worse or actually noticeable!

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
