Got to take my Cefiro out on the weekend and have a play with the factory turbo Laurel setup.

Alot different to R32 turbo's IMO.

Despite no BOV, close to zero flutter/surge in gear shifts (somehow)

Turbo starts singing at 2500rpm and is on 10 PSI just before 4000rpm, the sound is completely different.

Vids to come.

But for now, I taken pics of difference.

A31/C33 use a 16V - 10

R32s use a 16V 9

Everything else appears to be the same.

Different number on the wastegate actuators from memory. Exhaust side exactly the same, housings, wheels, etc all the same.

was looking at my rpms/boost clearly yesterday and if i full throttle it hits 10psi at 4k(r33 s2 turbo)

you stated 16v9 is r32, i've got a spare 1993 rb20 turbo thats "16v" and no other markings on it

so 16v 10-9 might be a variant between the 1988-1992 a31/c33

ref pic( not mine just a pic off sau)

hmm - nah sorry guys i'm with nic on this one...

this would explain my cefiro DE+T setup how i was on full boost at like...

0.000001 of an RPM lol

Nic knows what i'm talking about... his whole face lit up. hahah

Nah this one isnt a DE+T. Factory turbo auto halfcut. Atleast I don't think it is. The KMS are mismatched to the dash, possible they blew the long motor and replaced it, keeping the C33 gear like turbo, pipework, etc. ..but doesn't feel same as Rowans. Rowans had lots of torque and spooled up even earlier and quicker (start 2000 - full before 3000)

Dan, what turbo do you currently have fitted?

The pic with 16V and no other markings seems to have same type of fins. (straight, closer together)

If the fins are different between the two you have, try both turbo's. I'll do the same.

The motor in the other Ceffy was running ok but the actuator was sometimes a bit of a joker. Trying to open up at idle, not opening up at all, jamming open, etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

Something definately up here.

Fixed my exhaust leak....it sounds less like a blower and more like a turbo and response is again even quicker.

Light accel it'll stay off boost whole way through, under mid to heavy load it'll start spooling at 2000-2200 and tonight it regularly saw 10PSI at 3000rpm.

Still kicks in a tad later than Rowan's old DE+T (although that did have other mods helping it out) but see's full boost around same revs. Still doesnt feel like DE+T torque curve either.

Vids to come.

(Was having a hard time trying to get boost gauge and tacho inside frame, and drive without crashing - gotta find a passenger :D )

what intercooler are you wearing mister??? get an R34 SMIC :)

i didn't have THAT many mods... just turbo back / dodgy K&N filter

in case you're unaware - R34 SMIC goes straight up - no custom work! :)

(and it's a HUGE smic)

every stock 20 i ever owned spooled about 2krpm full boost by 3 , i only ever drove one that was about 500rpm later , but i suspected a tired motor (and years of 14psi all day every day) , personally , a rb20 ceff/r32 stock feels stronger than a equivalently stock rb25 r33 by seat of pants dyno

Weird how everyone has different experiences with turbo's .....

All stock at the moment for me. K+N pod filter with a decent amount of cold air, apart from that she's all stock, even the exhaust.

Keen to see how mine'll go with a 3" turbo back and a manual boost controller.

Last night it also peaked at 11-12 PSI a couple of times for some reason. Couldn't con it into doing it again...I think 3 times it hit 12 then slowly dropped to 10 almost straight away.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
