Hi all, i have been made project manager of my bosses r33 gts-t's upgrade and maintenance schedule. I am planning to change the 100km service items before embarking on a 380 kw rw upgrade quest. I am just wondering if anybody has had experience with genuine/ non genuine water pumps and what there experiences were. I am currently thinking about a protex N1 spec item but am unsure whether i should go non-genuine or nissan part. Any opinions would be appreciated.

i'm not familiar with the protex stuff, but my advice would be to stick with the genuine nissan pump. they are reliable and work well. the water pump only plays a small part in engine cooling. a bigger difference will be made by the quality of the radiator.

thanks, i am only considering non genuine as the N1 nissan pumps are $585 while the protex one is considerably less, i am on a budget to complete all the service items and attempt to get the performance mods also within budget. If there is minimal impact in pump performance going non-genuine i will go non-genuine and use the additional cash to buy a alloy cooling pro triple core radiator with the saved money

just jap have the N1 pump for $380. they also have the stock rb25 pump for $175. what sort of use is the car going to see? if it is going to be purely for track, etc then go the N1, if it is going to see regular street use then i would be going the stock rb25 pump. the N1 is designed for higher rpm use, so at lower rpm it doesn't flow as much (at least that is my understanding).

just take note that a lot of people have had issues with non-genuine pumps in the past and have ended up putting genuine pumps on afterwards. in fact a lot of people have had more success with rb30 pumps than non-genuine. if money is tight then definately go the genuine rb25 pump over a non-genuine N1 unit.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
