ae86 boy
hey guys i recently picked up a cheap r32gtr that had the flywheel explode and punch out through the bell housing of the gearbox etc now i have got another gearbox for it (came with the car) the problem lies with about 4 dowels/bolts coming off the engine are either all mashed up, cracked off completely or just stuffed. to fix this 100% id have to drill out the holes etc, but not having a hoist or any real experience doing this i was wondering: would it be alright if i were to put the gearbox on, only using the remaining holes that arn't totally fooked. yes it is dodgy i know, but im wondering if i do this will the gearbox twist off the engine first drive. or will it be pretty much right. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/354824-exploded-flywheel/ Share on other sites
Duncan
yeah that is too many broken maybe for street use you could get away with 1 or 2....but not 4. the block and or sump need to be welded and tapped, or replaced. btw flywheel bits can do enourmous damage. follow the holes through the chasis and make sure they haven't hit anything important like cutting a wiring loom. Also watch out for pieces of the last owner's legs in the driver's footwell. ae86 boy
i managed to get the mooshed up studs out with a bit of tapping. stocked! theres now 2 out of the 9 that cant be in there because that part of the sump/block as cracked off completely. who thinks 7 out of 9 studs holding on the gearbox is sweet? surely that would be safe. Duncan
yeah unfortunately the gtr has those bolts into the sump not a bolt on bracket. i did say 1-2 might be ok for road use. fixing it will be very expensive. probably worth trying and keeping an eye one it. PaulosECR33
yeah unfortunately the gtr has those bolts into the sump not a bolt on bracket. is that to give a little more room for the diff? did not have a clue they were like that lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/354824-exploded-flywheel/#findComment-5686784 Share on other sites
Duncan
yeah it's because of the diff. the gtst sump is thin steel and very light, all it has to hold up is 5kg of oil. the gtr sump has to hold up that +20kg of front diff!
