stick it on the front lawn tell the neighbours to eat a dick

you probably shoul dnot listen to me as im currently washing a car just im jocks while the neighbour auctions his house accross the road

Everyday I'm just little bit more grateful I don't live near you.

If a company is willing to assist in fund raising, you should take it.

I reckon a dyno day where anyone from SAU can dyno tune their car for like... $40, $20 goes to the company, $20 goes to the pot.

Have a sausage sizzle on the day. Profits go to the pot.

Collate pot.

Hand over opot.

Win at life.

Idealistic thinking etc.

I agree with the whole "track days isn't racing" thing... well.. they shouldn't be. I haven't been to a track day yet and this is making me a little worried about taking my car onto a track.

I can't hardly afford my car as it is... but I still want track time.

It would be an effort and a half to get some sort of system in place to fund prangs on track days, though. And it'd require a lot of debating by whoever manages CAMs to get track days and race days separated.

Hey mate,

I totally understand where you're coming from. I've always wanted to do track days, and this thread sure isn't going to stop me. It has made me think though, maybe it's worth buying a cheap old mx5 or something and making it a track car, rather than driving my pride and joy around. I say that though, then think that this is the first time it's ever happened, so the odds are stacked way in the favour of being safe.

What is much much much much MUCH more likely to happen is some form of mechanical failure. Think of the millions of things that can go wrong, track is waiting to bring them to the surface. In terms of probability, that doesn't compare to the few people around you on the track.

If you're really worried, buy a dedicated, no waste racing machine. I seem to remember hearing of a kart for sale...

(sorry sau, couldn't help it)

anymore derogatory comments and finger pointing etc will be met with warnings and banning should they continue..

Thunder or Greg if you will enough is enough, everyone has moved on and so should you. Posting irrelevant things trying to prove a point is off topic and well if im honest bloody annoying so just stop. If you feel unfairly portrayed take it up with a moderator and get it sorted instead of looking like an idiot.

To the rest of SAU remember what this thread is about.. Eric is sharing his story and journey from start to finish so if you absolutely have to be a keyboard warrior and say something that could be offensive or derogatory to a person or buisness do it via PM and not publically those are the rules..

Anyone reading this and having second thoughts about doing trackdays etc I emplore you to re-think it. SAU:NSW has and always will put safety first at everyone of our events, If you are still unsure come and watch one of our events and judge it for yourself..

Everyone,

This thread has run its course.

What happened was an accident, the first at one of our days out of about 9 years running them and the first one the Wakefield staff have ever seen at a club trackday.

This was not a raceday, so any references to incidents on race days is silly. Thunder/Greg im looking at you here.

We, ths club execs, do everything possible to make these days as safe as possible and as enjoyable and rewarding to participate in as humanly possible.

As far as myself and the other execs are concerned to have one incident in so many years of running these days we are happy that the safety record is so good but on the other hand we are still working very hard to make sure we evaluate the day, make changes as we see fit and continue running these days. We know most of the people there on the day, and we care. Simple. We arent a business doing this to make money, we do this for the enjoyment of members and that will always be the case. If anyone has any realistic suggestions, feel free to pass them on, or better yet come along and help run the day.

With that said, we are working to release the entry forms for the next Wakefield day and the next Texi day aswel, so like always, come along and have a go, we dont bite and as so many people have said in this thread, SAUNSW club events are fun, safe and affordable.

This thread will now be locked. Not because anyone has anything to hide, but because everything that needs to be said has been, anything from here on in is just arguments for the sake of arguments.

Cheers

-Steve

    • As I've said elsewhere, I am using the stock intercooler piping path in the engine bay, and a return flow cooler, and making ~250 rwkW (without any effort put into trying to turn it up past there just yet) and expect to be able to make some more, and frankly, I would be perfectly happy with 260-270rwKW. This is peak road Skyline usability territory. You go past there and, sure, the car will snap necks more when it's on boost, but it will also break shit all the time, cost a (even larger) fortune in tyres, etc etc. Anyway, I also do not like the over-the-fan pipe path, and you don't have to do it.
    • I see, honestly I’m not too fussed about the looks. The only reason to go plenum is to make the piping easier instead of the classic over the rad etc.
    • Not easy to quantify wrt something like how many fractions of a second slower it would be over 0-100. But given that a 250-300rwkW car is able to do that launch sprint in 5-6 sec (and faster with appropriate tyres, and surface)..... giving up as much as a second would feel like torture. A ~450HP capable turbo is not going to make lots of boost in the 2000-3000 rpm range. So, whilst with some boost on hand it will be faster accelerating in that rev range than your engine currently is NA, it will not feel like a fast car until the boost is solidly in. You know what your car feels like right now when you open it up at 2000rpm. if you've ever been in an actual fast car, you will appreciate that the NARB25 is.... not exciting. Well, add some boost and it will be better. But shorten the intake runners and it might not be better at all. It might come out better, but it could end up feeling the same. For me, it's not the 0-X km/h sprints that matter. It is easy to fry the tyres with anything over 200 rwkW. You can't use all the power available in 1st and 2nd anyway, you have to modulate the throttle. What matters is how the car reacts when you're driving in traffic in 4th or 5th and have maybe 2000 rpm on board, and you want/need to add some speed quickly, and don't have time for the downshift. It won't make boost, it will be all NA (at the speeds we're talking about - remember how fast you're going at 2000 in 4th! and don't plan on breaking the limit by too much.) So giving away NA torque is not what I would consider practical for a street car. And retaining that NA torque builds boost faster which makes the car faster. The flashy plenum is not actually better, unless you're looking at a track car where you can keep it on the boil all the time.
    • So how much difference does it make you think? Like 1 second in the 0-100?  I was have smaller turbo so hopefully that spools quick GTX2871.  currently it’s NA so you can imagine pretty slow, but I do want fast accusation a little as there’s not many places I’ll be driving where I go over 80 even near me. So 0-60 and 0-80 targets
