Tyre Recommendations For 370Gt?

Hey guys and gals,

I have just purchased a 2008 370GT SP through Geoff at Prestige Motorsport (who has so far been extremely helpful and actually found me a better car, on paper, than I thought I would get for the money) and it should be on its way very soon. Does anyone have any advice as to what tyres I should go for, to get it past compliance?

Tyre sizes are: Front: 225/45R19

Rear: 245/40R19

The car is going to be a daily driver so i dont want anything over the top or that gives a harsher ride and dont want to spend a fortune, up to $1500 for the set, maximum. Does anyone know of a good spot to get them in Brisbane? The car will be complied in Brisbane and I am in WA so I want to make sure that the compliance place doesnt try to make any extra $$$ on the tyres.

On a different topic, I have been looking at some of the basic mods that people recommend and have read about the grounding kit that suuposedly improves throttle response etc. Does anyone have any experience with these and know if they actually make any difference?

hey mate not sure with tire sizes and all but just thought I'd add my 2c, I had stock 17" on v35 coupe and tires where Yokohama advan sports and they were very very good they had minimal noise and enormous grip and barely changed in wet conditions

Mate, I too just got a G37. And the dealer recommended that I source my tyres from the US.

Apparently the price difference plus postage is still MUCH cheaper than what you can get down here.

+1 on the Advans. I'm running 255/20 front & 285/20 rear and the grip in all conditions is pretty hard to beat.

Do tyres from the US meet the Australian Standards criteria? this could cause issues for compliance.....

It would be f'ed up if they dont accept the Jap tyres that are on it but let you put other imported tyres on......but then again.....thats government for you....

my car came with the factory jdm spec potenzas, so guess it depends on the compliancer?

no need to get tyres from the states fellas, buying tyres isn't a big problem if you know what you're looking for

wouldn't buy tyres unless I can see them first anyway, just find a tyre shop you trust

I have the 19" sport stockies & wanted to stay within factory spec,

so I run a 235/40/19 on the front which will still give an accurate speedo reading

running 245/40/19 on the rears

you can run a wider tyre on these wheels if you want, just google search a tyre size calculator so you stay within spec

about mods I have a grounding kit, lowered springs,exhaust & eibach pro swaybars

grounding kit actually made the auto feel smoother to shift (useless if you buy a manual as the difference felt is in the auto gearchange response), small but noticable improvement to response

lowered springs were for getting rid of large front wheel gap, Pain in the ass for getting around sydney but not too bad if you angle your entry

swaybars are the best investment I made, improved the handling 100%

exhaust was just for the sound, not much of a performance improvement as the base level performance is good anyway

shied away from getting intakes etc as my car is a daily driver & don't want to go crazy, besides supposed to be saving up for other things

      This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.       My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.

      Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno

      Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
