Hi,

I bought a R32 GTR about 5 months ago, it not a daily driver, but when I do drive it the suspension drives me insane. Im pretty sure that the coilovers I have are flogged out, the front end tends to bounce though bumpy corners (not fun!!!). I have the alignment specs from the previous owner and I cant see anything that could cause issues. The other thing that annoys me is that I think the suspension is way too stiff. Im not sure whether I should look at rebuilding them and getting new softer springs or just replace them. I cant seem to find any information on the net about the coilovers in my car, but I suspect that they are very old. The part number suggests that they are for a non-GTR, is this an issue?

Any advise/opinions on what I should do would be great.

Specs stamped on rear passenger side coilover:

DDN19-12511

HCR32-R 93E

TEIN

There is also a sticker but thanks to google, Im pretty sure it is just a Japanese tuning shop

"Signal Auto Senri"

If you dont think I should rebuild them, any suggestions on what to replace them with would be great. The lowest off the self spring rates I can find on new coilovers are 8/6kg (F/R). I think the standard GTR spring rates were around 4/3(??) I "think" I would like something stiffer than standard, but still comfortable enough to drive on our crappy roads for a few hours without needing a neck brace. Street driven only, no drag or track work (for now).

I can put up a pic if it helps.

Cheers,

Brendan

Nothing wrong with Tein but I don't know those numbers signify.

Have a look around this website but more usefully find your local Tein dealer/service agent and make some enquiries there.

I think im going to look at replacing them with something else. Its probly going to cost around the same to get them rebuilt with new springs as it will to get a new set of BC Racing coilovers and then I get damper adjustablity too. I know the BC's arnt the best quality, but for the driving and km's I do, I think they will be fine.

    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
    • thanks GTSboy. My confusion at the moment is i am trying to locate the ignition, ECU battery power and the ECU negative The closest thing i can find is the for the S15 on Page 8 of the Wiring Specialties web page https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9F33_M_GgENQnZ6STMxVmVNd1E/view?resourcekey=0-eZ4nNRwRoqa1qvKlWWHm8A I cannot find the same diagram for the R33 RB25DET Series 2 dash plug pin out.... Do you know what the Pins? or know where i can find the same pinout diagram for the RB dash plug? Thanks for the advice on the box... i like a 6 speed so might be on the lookout or the box now.. a topic of discussion for another post...
    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
