Hey guys,

Just wanting to know if anybody has had HSD HR coilovers fitted to there R33 gtr or any gtr for that matter?

What are they like as a coilover, im just after feed back on them

and also spring rates, the standard ones come with 10F 8R

but you can opt for 2KG either up or down front and rear from this.

Does anybody know what would be the best spring rate for an R33 GTR on these coilovers??

My main aim will be street driven with occassional track and drag meets.

I am only new around here, but have a strong background in motocross and understand suspension, and what is trying to be achieved inside a shock, and the physics that are working against you. I also have a 33 GTR that I am looking at setting up, more predominantly for track, but still street registered never the less. I can highly recommend reading throughly the sticky's that have been written by SydneyKid, and then contacting him directly. I dont know him, have only emailed him, but I can tell you that he KNOWS suspension. I have been scouring the internet recently trying to get some real info on suspension, and this was, in my opinion, the first real piece of info that I have got. Knowing what I know now, there is no way that I would go anywhere near any cheap coilovers, especially if you want your car to handle properly. To be honest, I was amazed that so many chinese made coilovers had flooded the market over the recent years, and obviously done so through sales numbers. I am sure that car handling would go severly backwards once a set of these "cheap" coilovers were installed, regardless of what so many "apparent" happy owners claim. Sure, they may be better than a flogged out set of old springs and shocks, or a cheap way to achieve a drift set up, but that is about all in my opinion. Seriously, any set of coilovers are still a fair chunk of money, so I suggest doing some more research and then making up your own mind. I know which way I will be going when I order my new suspension and chassis adjustment components. Good luck.

cheers for the reply. so would you agree with coilovers or rather go with suspesnion and spring set up rather then coilovers? i am looking at all options, but i am also interested in bang for buck per say. as you could easily spend 4-5K on your suspension set up if you wanted to, just to go to the track a couple of times a year though i dont think that is feasable. as it will be mainly a streeter, i need suspensions i can use weekly im just worried about too harsher spring rates etc that some of these set ups have.

Just trying to find out the right combo for R33 GTR set up.

Thanks for the heads up, i have read some of the stuff syd kid has written.

still want to know more about these HSD's and people experiences with them.

HSD for the money are great used to be $1700 for a set but now down to $1400 i think good price work great and easily servicible i have a set to go into my car now and i would recommend them for street and track use, i swaped them from my koni ajustible shocks and whiteline springs wouldnt go back ;)

Hey guys, well i went with HSD, they seem to be not too bad for there price, and as its mainly a street car, with occassional use at the track once i get it all up and running.

One thing i was a bit dissapointed with though was the front coilover adjustable bottoms were to short for GTR to adjust even to regular ride height, now im not sure if this was a mistake with them or what but i had to pay extra for bottoms for the fronts with more adjustment on them. so ask this question if you are going to buy a set. other then this,

they are good bang for buck. :)

Hey daz

Buy a set of 6kg springs for the rear and put the 8kg in the front. It will be a way nicer street car and u will struggle to notice any loss in cornering stabilty. They were about $160 for the pair of 6kg spring from memory

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.  
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go       
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
