Hey guys i recently had an issue with my brakes. My standard handbrake is not bolted down so for about 2 - 3 weeks i had my hydraulic handbrake locked as the R32 was on a bit of a hill, Im assuming this caused the booster or cyl to die but im not sure. On the day i went to get the car tuned the brake master cyl was empty so i topped it up, The brakes worked but i had to push the pedal ALL the way down and there was no pressure, it felt like a clutch pedal.

I have removed the brake booster as shown in the pics below , i thought there might be a seal or boot or something that might have ripped under pressure but just by looking at the seals / boot they are not ripped or torn but as you can see from the pictures it is leaking somewhere, I assumed it was the boot behind the booster as when i pressed the brake pedal a few times i quickley ran to the front of the car and looked around the booster area and could see it leaking from behind but im still not 100% sure.

Any opinions ? Boosters are not cheap so i dont want to buy a new one unless i really have to but if i do then i will.

Mine did this the other week when I went to bleed them up (had front calipers off), I'm guessing it was a seal in the master cylinder and because the car has been sitting so long it ate through the seal on the booster as well. Picked up another master and booster from Steve May for cheap cheap

The booster could be fine. They seem to be a lot more reliable than masters. If its not leaking air it should be ok. I believe that masters should be rebuilt every 10years (or some similar interval).

You didn't say that you bled the brakes after topping up the m/c. If the level disappears than proper bleed is necessary. Booster contains only air and vacuum so if m/c is leaking no need to change booster.

80 bux ey, one bloke wants 4x that for both and another shop wants 100 just for the master. and yer, those bolts are f**ked, im a fatty and the only way i could get it off was to lie down upside down inside the car lol

And yeah, I'm a portly fellow too and had to get in the same way :P

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
