Hey guys,

Have just finished stripping out a GTR and am about to start re-wiring the interior system and put everything onto a control panel that will be mounted around the stereo area...

It will have all the usual finctions (Start, Ignition, Fuel, Indicators etc.)

What i would like is for people to post up some photos of their own panels so i can get some layout ideas, im not wanting to just throw a bunch of switches on a panel, functionality and ease of use (when driving) is what im after.

Cheers guys.

Keep the stock gear, seriously.

Wipers, lights, indicators all at your fingers without taking your hands off the wheel to reach for a switch. Plus you're used to where they are so no thinking about where stuff is when you get in the track car once a month or so.

main power/start/what ever else can go in the console as you don't really need to get at it when driving.

Just a few things I've learnt in regards to the dash with the R33 as I was isntalling my Racepak IQ3 Dash.

- You need the hazard switch connected for the indicators to function.

- There is a switch inside the original cluster that sends the control switch to the alternator (I put a 100R 1W Resistor between the two wires in order for the alternator to charge correctly, took me hours to figure this out :( )

its actually a globe that does it. just like the oil pressure light.

best to wire in a pilot light with a globe (not an LED) to excite the alternator and it severs as an indicator when it stops charging.

It's not solely the globe because it works with the globe taken out. There is a 100Ohm resistor soldered onto the flexible circuit board.

The digital dash shows up errors on the screen when its value falls outside a set of parameters.

Cheers Guys,

I will be leaving the cluster in ATM, but thanks for the heads up on the Alternator, I do remember something about this in TAFE! lol

Phunky_Monkey: Whats the switch box you have located next to your handbrake??

I had the car rewired with a Painless kit, which you can find out more info on here: http://project180sx.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2008-11-11T13:00:00%2B11:00&max-results=3

The result was perfect, though time consuming.

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required.
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something?
    • I couldn't agree more. I should have started from the get-go with a NEO or solid bucket conversion. I started looking into converting over to solid lifters yesterday.
