I have an adjustable speed sander/polisher, Ive used it as a polisher/buffer on cheap arse cars (buy cheap sell for profit) before and it worked ok on them with some harsh cutting compound.

But if I get decent lake country pads, clay bar and decent polish can I use the same machine?

It's a 6" ryobi from memory.

Will it do as good a job as a random orbital polisher or should I not waste the money on decent pads etc...?

Yes it will work ok.......but with a sander vs a Random Orbital there is a lot less margin for error. More chance of heating the paint up too much and burning etc.

If you have a fair idea of what you are doing then you should be ok, but it isnt ideal.

You can get a decent Bosch random orbital polisher for $150.

http://www.skylinesa...isher-feedback/ See post #12 :) the kits have pads and polish everything you need!

A RO like the concours 900 is ALOT easier to get swirl and hologram free finish with a sander/rotary machine its difficult for a professional let alone a hobbyist (not trying to put you down)

Instead of "honey I need to spend a bit more" you say "honey I placed an order and fogot about the gravitaional pull of the earth when pricing up so I had to spend a bit more, but the orders already placed" :)

hmmm, not bad..

I used the 'honey it'll make your car look awesome', it did work, but I think I'll need weave the gravitational pull line into the conversation in regards to increasing costs... thumbsup.gif

For an enthusiast, go the RO. It's hard to damage your paint, it will take a bit longer then rotary polisher but still many times faster than elbow grease.

a straight rotary gets quick results.. right down to the undercoat if you're not careful. not worth the risk for casual use - if you polish cars every day they're a must but you HAVE to know how to use them correctly or you will do damage.

Sweetie, Ive been trying to clean up the sink. Now there's a stain over there near the drain. See that? Now I'll be back from Bunnings in a jiffy and it'll be all gone by the time I attack it! Cya soon :)

nah Ive got it sussed she's now asking me have you got that polishing stuff yet? my car really needs it...

done... no drain stain or gravitational pull required.. damn I think I know how to operate the machine that is women, well getting there atleast!

    • The incentives are mostly the same, yes. Ethanol is cheap compared to the cost of doing 98-100 RON with crude oil alone. 87 to 93-94 AKI all with E10. In 2020 Canada mandated E10 as a part of their "renewable fuel standard" and is supposedly going to go to E15 in 2030. In California where there are only 8 refineries with two threatening to shut down next year it's been over 20 years now of E10 and 91 AKI maximum because there's just not enough refinery capacity or crude oil supply relative to the demand for premium unleaded fuel. And CARB's low carbon fuel standard means functionally none of the diesel available at the pump is made from crude oil anymore. It's almost all entirely 20% biodiesel blended with 80% renewable diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil) now. The number of gasoline vehicles that support E15 or higher ethanol concentrations is surprisingly low, I can't imagine it being wise to play tricks like this without flex fuel sensors in most of the fleet.
    • It's almost certainly the same as the one next to it. • South Australia, which is hardly as far behind as the rest pf Oz makes out, and who is also not a paragon of progressiveness (read that as over-legislation) in the area of vehicle standards, has this to say on the subject: Adjustable coil-over suspension Aftermarket adjustable coil-over suspension components are suspension units that incorporate an external thread on the main body and corresponding threaded spring saddle that allows the vehicle's suspension height to be varied. If fitting aftermarket or coil-over suspension components you must submit an Application to modify a light motor vehicle form and a report from a light vehicle engineering signatory (LVES).
    • Hi all, Long time since I've posted here. Looking for some advice on what I can remove to further identify the cause of my issues.  I can move the passenger seat forward and back but the knob used to adjust the seat angle is pretty much free spinning, there's very little resistance.  Removing the side cover I can see that the chain is intact but the shaft for the adjustment spins without the gear attached to it moving.  What's my next step for disassembly here? Is this a common fault? Just being a little cautious as I didn't want to start removing bolts for a spring to fly out or something equally as stupid.  Cheers
