Hey guys, a large group of us here in Tassie are trying to stop a anti-hoon legislation being passed. We believe it is unfair to the point of giving police unlimited power.

We have the council with us, an MLC (and ex-cop) and had a petition handed to the government. but it still doesn't do a great deal.

we got a feature in the paper, but it was edited a changed the facts. We're Not Hoons!

The government keeps bringing up how well this legislation worked in Queensland, but i am led to believe this is untrue.

Could you guys help us out and word your opinion on the situation and how the legislation is REALLY going up there

cheers Tim,

Hey Tim,

Unfortunatly, I don't think we will be able to stop this legislation from coming in. However we need to compromise with the government, for example bring in the hoon laws but provide a weekly off street drags for a lower cost or maybe even a off street race around baskerville, also at lower cost.

They have to be made to understand that we want to go off street but the cost is too much, expecially for us hobart people because we have to drive up north for tarmac events.

I hobart for example, if the drags are on a friday/saturday night, then no one will do blockies and for the ones that insist, then the "hoon laws" will deal with them. This keeps town residents happy(no noise) and less burnouts will be done at 2am outside my house...

Also these laws won't stop full on bogans stealing cars and doing the same things because most of them don't have licences. Maybe they need to look at putting these little shits behind bars.

Anyway, please explain how this is going to reduce the road toll and if it does when will rego costs/insurance costs come down to reward us....it wont.

Rant off.

cheers smooth, yes i have a good idea it won't get stopped, but we feel the ruling is not entirely fair.

it is true, when the drags are on there is no one doing blockies etc.

another point is that devonport of all the towns in tassie is having a complex built for drags burnouts etc, why can't launceston or hobart.

i could go on for ages about this but i just really wanted to know how the law had affected QLD residents

t hasnt affected me personally but one of my mates got his bike taen off him. he was being a dick and just fryin up the wheels in the middle of the road though (cops in an unmarked car filmed it all)

1st time - vehicle gone for 48 hours

2nd time - 3 months

3rd time - dont get it back

atleast that what i am lead to beleive with the confiscation terms...

you wont be able to stop it bcoz the general public dont relly understand what you are getting at as they are not the ones who want cheaper track days, they honestly wouldnt give a shit how much it costs us people for a trackday...please try though aye, hopefully it will catch on up here!

the stupid thing is, that if you take away quickly in a manner that looks like racing you can be done, even if you dont spin your wheels, speed, intoxicated or go all over the road...

basically, ITS GHEY!

they have cars in tassie? :D targa tassie i spose :)

eh. anyway............yeah i think you'd have bugger all chance of stopping it because the bulk of the population support anti hooning laws......i spose its a good thing that the bulk of the population has the most effect on the laws.

dont fight it. just keep what you do quiet.........there are no cops out in the middle of no where at dawn.......and that is where you should be letting off your steam if there is no strip or track anywhere near you. for the people that get caught and done for hooning laws while in populated/built up areas, screw em. they knew the game before they played it.......if you keep it legal there's no problems.....well....thats the idea.

but there are cases where a young driver has been pinned for hooning when the charge should have been speeding, this is BS and shouldnt be on. good luck down there!

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
