I think pictures speak for them selves.

Car in front wasn't watching.. Broke late..

I just happened to look down to move my floor mat for a fraction of a second when I hear squeeling..

Next second I'm squeeling and bang, happened too quickly to even unlock the brakes and re-apply. :D

Some how the FMIC didn't spring a leak.. *YET*

It was a young P plater in a little ol' white ~82 Mazda 626 that I hit.

His rear bumper still looked ok apart from the chrome stripping that had been squashed. :(

But thats the way it goes.. I should have left enough room up front to stop in time under all circumstances. Strange thing is only a couple of months ago I woke up after having dream that I looked up and hit a white car up the arse. *plays spooky music*

Fark.

I'm considering claiming insurance as the excess is 1k.

I'll find out first what they want to spray everything up.

I'll say I will need another radiator support panel bit (thats if its like the ol' Holdens how it bolts on and off) another bonnet. the two guards are fine.. a new bumper and a new bumper support bar. + 2 headlights. blinkers are fine.. not a scratch on them

Joel, I have just put a GTR bonnet on my car, and have my original bonnet. I am still deciding on wether to keep it as a spare in case I end up dinging mine or getting rid of it, if you are keen let me know and I will have a think about it

Bad luck on the accident,

Chris

Cheerz Chris.

I think I am going to end up claiming as just for parts Here's what I have

2 x Headlights - $370

Radiator Support - $165

Radiator - $210 (not really needed but the fan did touch the top of the radiator)

Shroud - $75

Bonnet - $275

Front Bumper & Support Bar - $385

Both blinkers and guards havn't been touched.

Thats $1480 already without labour for welding the radiator support in + paint etc.

My excess is 1k all up inc. under 25 excess. Thank god I changed insurance company's and didn't go with Justcars or famous who charge 2k as an excess.

There goes my Rating 1 65% NCB :D

My old man had an original mini cooper 's'. Used to run 14:1 comp. Easily outran the old valiant cop car at Strathalbyn. Had to run the thing on a methanol mix and used to do big ends on a regular basis by revin it to hard. Awesome cars but, When i was in malaysia i found they brought big money, $30k + for a real mint one, the people over there love them.

Joel, think about how much claiming on insurance really costs

$1000 excess

65% NCB (say around another $500 to $1000)

then, it takes you another 5 years to get back to rating one, IF you can get insurance, so for the next five years it will probably cost you near enough to another 1-2K.

Not really that cheap - unless you have NCB protection.

If I remeber correctly MattR couldnt get insurance after his R32 was written off, different I know, but it might be worth checking to make sure you will be able to get re-insured again when the renewal is due.

For all those parts, have you tried seeing if you can get a cash discount;) always brings prices down for me, also have you tried the more obscure jap wreckers?

yeah add up the fact that next year the premium will go up and wont drop for a few years, you should be able to get parts for a lot better than that, get the phone book out.

I only just sold my bonnet for $100 too, have a radiator you can have real cheap dont know its condition though, and have the shroud as well, maybe more stuff just need to go for a hunt

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
