for a couple of months i have been complaining to you guys about my car randomly stalling, and i was fed up and about to sell it. but i came around and tried one more time...

i never thought this would be possible as you lose all hope after trying many times and mechanics being dodgy, anyway heres what i did.

i unplugged every single sensor connection, AFM IAC TPS and more, took intercooler piping off, took boost controller off, disconnected Boost solenoid, let it sit there for a while, more than half n hour,

i cleaned the AFM with contact cleaner again for the third time and let it sit in the sun.

I then by accident dropped the AFM and i thought great i screwed things up now didnt i ?

Anyway, put it all back together, secured all the connections, fired her up, and drove for 30 minutes, its been about one week almost and i havent had Hunting, hesitation, idle stall , power back off, heavy power steering at round abouts,

i guess the connections where loose, ill give it one more week of driving and see how it goes.

ill post another comment and let you guys know.

As for the blokes who offered thier Advice

thanks heaps!!!!!

it came back today, but i think ive pinpointed the damn plug causing me issue, Either the AFM is blown or the afm cable plug is rooted,

it starts becoming wierd, i accelerate it hesitates, i pull over turn the car off unplug - replug firmly, then its fine.

is the air flow meter in need of soldering ?

or is my Air flow meter plug dead.

not your afm, i just fixed a problem just like it on a r33 s2 gtst, the plug became brittle and cracked, so cut the wires back about 1cm, then soldered the plug on it, now doesnt have any issues any more. been over a month and not a single problem.

if you want, run your car under idle and wiggle the plug around, you will notice stalling and hesitation.

so make sure you wire the cables into the plug, get a very small screwdriver to take the connectors out of the plug, then cut the wires and solder them onto the connectors and re plug the connectors back into the plug.

there is a similar issue on the coilpack loom, with heat they become hard and break after some years, i replaced my loom a couple months ago

damnit lol, im not very good with Wiring and electonics. Your right on one thing, For 5 days straight i had no problems, i could boost high and low, idle properly no stalls

untill last night, i took her out for a drive, and as i came to the lights, she died, so i fired her up, starts fine, idles ok Take off driving it bogs out a bit if i blip the accelerator it comes back after a second. I DONT GET IT ANYMORE!

somebody come fix this crap lol. i mean the last 4-5 days weather was pretty much the same, so then we get hot day/cold night

So i pull over switch the car off, pop bonnet, unplug airflow meter Replug as firm as i can, start drives fine for X amount of time?

So is this the plug wiring? its killing me......

plug wiring, go to an auto electrician and ask them to re-connect or solder the plug, say its not getting 100% contact to your AFM, shouldnt be much to fix. maybe 50 bucks.

i would do it if i was in melbourne, but a bit too far for me... :P

In the end it was a FAKE AFM! damn them fake afm's . Got a genuine plugged it in gave it a service, reset the ECU and bam! problem gone!

really happy with how she's driving now, goes really well improved!!!!

    • Oof. One of my mates has an R34 GT-R that he initially was a "I want to go twins for response and convenience" on his stock 2.6 with Kelford 272 cams, but his friends are pests and were always in his ear about their place being in the bin.   Eventually one of the 2860-5s decided to add it's own input and force his hand, so he conceded and went for a Pulsar 6262G ("G35 900") with T4 0.85 hotside.    Here's an overlay of the results, same cams, same stock bottom end, same boost, same fuel, just from a pretty tidy 2860-5 install to a Pulsar turbo on a 6boost maniifold on BP98.   Worth mentioning here, it may seem like a dead horse thing but the dyno plot doesn't tell the story of how much better it is to drive - transient response has completely changed the car, he used to have flat foot shifting to stop it having to wind up again on gear changes even at >7000rpm... now it builds boost faster than that even short shifting.   It's 100% transformed the car before you even consider how much better it holds on: Pulsar and Garrett aren't the same, but from our experience if you're just looking for a better drive and the ability to make the same or more power I think the divided G30 770 would probably be the smallest I'd go to.
    • Great work Duncan, any events local you will give it a test once all done?
    • Sweet, yeah hoping stock gears will hold up. May use the transbrake feature on hill climb starts so that will test it.
    • Yeah, the thread is only nearly 20 years old.
    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly. She purrs like a kitten (ignore the co2 alarm in the background, I did  ) 20250518_171052.mp4 Next step, off for run-in, tuning and alignment!
