Are neons illegal?

If they are in the front grill (the globe isnt showing), and its red?

i heard from somewhere that red is illegal, but green n blue arent?

can anyone help me with this

thanks

ps, if you are going to say neons are shit, dun post, I cant be bother reading it..

when mine were... um - inspected, nothing was said about the colour, just no flashing, and make sure the globe can't be seen.

Ive tried driving around with all three colours at one time or another, and so far no sticker ! so im guesing they're ok...

also ref. this thread... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=38868

hope this clears things up

Phil

I've recently been involved in a yellow sticker incident involving neons, so I can quote first hand what is and isn't allowed.

The law according to a Dept of Transport vehicle inspector:

Neons are legal under the following conditions,

You must not be able to see the elements from a seated position in an ajacent vehicle, neons are not allowed to pulse or flash, you must not have a red neon facing forward, all other colors are acceptable, all colors including red are acceptable for the sides and rear, they must be adequatly secured and the elements shielded to avoid exposure to other drivers. You can drive around with them on.

The law according to some cops:

Yellow sticker every vehicle with neons as they are deemed a distraction to other drivers, you can't have them on whilst driving but static in a carpark is OK.

My personal suggestion is put em on the correct way, use them and know the law and your rights if you get pulled over, just remember though it could cause the cops to look for other defects on your car so keep it neat and legal.

no good comes from them....

you get more "rice boy" shit from trevs

more attention from cops

if your car is stock and you have neons thats just stupid

if your car is bombed, looks like the 2 fast 2 furious car (like danny's :D) then its ok because he is riced up on every other angle so the neons dont look outa place.

all i can suggest is dont turn them on or off infront of a cop

because then they will say they are flashing, and if you are turning them off then the cops will think your guilty of something and pull you over... :(

thats true. have seen plenty of commodores with cheap and nasty neon installs.

:vomit:

I find this to be true also... and the ONLY thing worse than a cheap and crappy install is cheap and crappy neons - if they are so dull you can only see them when parked in the dark, why bother?

    • when you say spring pressure.. I would have thought the ideal control mode for these would be a very light spring and a 4 port solenoid feeding both sides of the actuator. enough to close it when no boost is present and thats about it. You don't have exhaust manifold pressure as part of the mechanical feedback loop like a regular poppet valve does. however, the control strategy for a butterfly valve is a bit more complex than just holding a PWM value. or a % position for the e-gate. a poppet valve self regulates due to exhaust manifold pressure on the valve face, these balanced butterfly valves do not, so feeding boost to an actuator is only half of the normal wastegate control equation.  you really need an exhaust manifold pressure correction on the output (either measured or simulated) to have it stable.   but still, that is a lot of creep. whats the runner off the manifold look like?
    • I'd be using your approach if I had the light. Some measuring, get some vernier calipers, measure, draw, make another one as a slightly smaller hole and start cutting.
    • Hi guys really sorry if its a silly question, but im trying to figure out if a r33 gtr front reinforcement bar will fit on a r33 gtst series 1. Need it for road worthy but also wanted to get the gtr one as I wont need to cut the reo when I upgrade my fmic apparently? TIA!!
    • For a more simple method you could look into Dakota Digital and see if their cruise control retrofit kit would work on the stag.
    • In which case I still think my approach would be just as easy. In fact, easier, because of all that guidance on the front side.
