I did a bit of a search and it didn't come up with anything meaningful.

I wanted to know at what approximate mileage people are replacing their;

A) engine mounts and

B) gearbox/transmission mounts

Apart from slight vibration at idle and clunk of engine when shifting from drive to reverse, what are other symptoms?

Also I understand that the C34 Stagea 4WD uses the same as the R32/R33 GTR engine mounts.

Do most just replace with aftermarket Nismo ones ( a bit stiffer I think) or other aftermarket ones? Anyone priced genuine ones lately?

I changed my rear transmission mount a few weeks ago (1999 S2 Automatic RS4)... I posted it in the "what have you done to your stagea lately"

There was a slight vibration under load which got louder in the cold and wet weather. It has made SO much difference, I had been troubleshooting the vibration for ages!! My car only had 140,000 on the clock. Part number: 1132001U01 and was about $200 with the replacement rubber bushes for the bottom transmission brace. From my research I couldn’t find a Nismo equivalent.

Supposedly its a bitch to do the engine mounts, but as I haven’t done it (only heard from my mechanic) I could be wrong.

Just ordered the Nismo set from Nengun: 2x eng mount, 1x gbox mount: cost $268.88. It was the cheapest I could find from a trusted supplier...

For the record, I think my shell has around 160000km on it, but the engine and gearbox were swapped in about 20000km ago: not sure how old the shagged mounts are...

Do you have any pics or description of the suspect trans mount, any DIY instructions/tips that you would like to share? How did you diagnose it in the end? Any pics of the one you took out?

How hard would it be to replace without a hoist?

Was yours also idling roughly as well as getting the vibration under acceleration? Assume there was no vibration when just cruising. Was it rev specific?

Sorry mate don't have any pics of the old mount, basically the "insulator" (as nissan calls it) part of the mount was not as thick as the new one. This caused the transmission to droop and as it was on an angle would vibrate under load. In the later stages the vibration was really loud (especially when wet) as the "insulator" part had worn away and it was just metal on metal. Wasn't rev specific but i noticed it would be louder stationary.

I only found out it was worn from the muffler shop (hats off to HiTech Mufflers) as i was thinking it was my exhaust vibrating!

I wouldn't want to try changing it without a hoist, keep in mind you will need to support the transmission (jack or what ever) while you remove the transmission cross brace.

The mount is only $100 but the other 4 rubber pads (11248) should be replaced too (mine were totally gone and added to the transmission drooping further). These are $25 each (rip off i know).

Hope that helps buddy.

Adrian.

Thanks Adrian, I will be sure to check mine when I'm next under the car.

Was the car also idling slightly roughly (side mirrors slightly moving) as well as the metal on metal vibration when stationary?

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
