Has anyone ever fitted a 18 x 9" +40 on a gts r33 4 doors? i just recently understand what offset is and I dont want to make a quick purchase without checking. Always never satisfied whenever i rush to get things.Hoping to get some feedback. i know this car is hella old but SAU is all i could think of right now!... thanks!

I forgot to mention for the front it will be 18x8" +38 instead. Am i good to go? *fingers crossed*

BTW im currently using 18x7.5" on all 4 and the looks dont seem to cut it.

im really hoping the abovementioned wheel specs will improve it significantly if not perfect the looks!

What's the offset on the 7.5's ?

Any pics showing the current wheel fitment ?

+38 is still a rather high offset even for an 8" wide rim.

ahhh damn! :( i was so hoping the 1 inches reduction will fit... :( will post my current wheel pics later... and im not so sure about the offset but ill take the pic and post it later. [ i didnt understand offset when i got the 7.5"]

thats mine... can i assume that even with 7.5 inches and with a right offset, it will fill my guards as well? or it needs the RIGHT offset? too much negative offset might hit the brake calipers? am i on the right track? :s

Too much positive offset may hit brakes, suspension.

Basically positive offset means the rim of the wheel is sitting further inboard than if it were centred with the hub. Negative offset means it is sitting outward from the body of the car.

i always thought the offset determines the wheel lip! so no go for the 18x8" +38 front? ok to be honest i dont need it to be exactly in line with the fenders. i just want to improve the stance of my car. The ones i have on now is like 1.5 inches more to reach the fenders.

18x8+38 on the front is pretty weak.

If you want to fill out the guards 18x8/9 in the range of +25/30 will do the job without neeing to do much in the way of guard work or camber.

Hi, what do you mean by weak? Do you think it will rub against brakes , coil overs etc in the front? now my ultimate doubt is... will it fit without any problems?

im pretty sure that 8 inches is still better than 7.5 inches in terms of looks.

i found a 9 inches one with +35 and that will definitely not fit in the front right? so i am stuck with the 8 inches. just need to confirm it before i make the purchase.

Maybe this will help. Call it a 17" diameter wheel

Your wheel has a centre line. Say its 8 inches wide, so your centre line is at 4 inches of wheel in front 4 inches in the back. As seen in the middle pic where it says zero offset. So if you had a 17 x 8 +0 wheel you would have 4 inches of rim in front of the mounting face and 4 inches behind it.

If you had a wheel that was 17 x 8 +25 wheel, it would be like the pic on the left, and you would have 3 inches of wheel in front of the mounting face, and 5 inchs of wheel behind the mounting face

If you had a wheel that was 17 x 8 -25 off set you would have a 5 inches of wheel in front of the mounting and 3 inches behind the mounting face.

So A wheel with lower offset (closer to zero or in the negatives) will stick out further than a wheel with higher offsets (ie more positive of a figure)

Lower offset pushes leaves less rim behind the mounting face meaning more inner guard clearance but less outer clearance, and fills the guards out more, and vice versa for positive, higher offset have more rim in behind the mounting face but moves it away from your outer guard.

Finding the balance is the key between clearing brakes/ suspension and how much body/guard work you want to do due to having lower offsets

If you're lowered too you might consider getting a rear camber kit to level out your tyres to prevent inner tyre wear.

Also consider using spacers if you can't find the perfect rims, even though i have been told they're illegal.

yes after reading it twice i get it... darn... must be tough to find the right balance... screw that... :(

It's taken me almost 2 months to find the perfect set of rims for a good price, it takes patience. Have a good hard look around for rims would good offsets and widths and you'll come up with the goods. Unfortunately sometimes you have to spend that little extra money to get low offset rims like VOLKS.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.

    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
