bentwagon
Start the engine, grab a hose and lightly start spraying water on and around all belts/pullies and see if noise changes/stops. Finally managed to do this the other day - noise stops for a second then continues. pipster11
Quick q - does the cas on a series 2 require the cas seal? kind of, in the seal are 3 brass standoffs, they space the cas out the correct distance to stop you loading up the thing and breaking it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/410268-cas-noisy-23731-5l300/page/2/#findComment-6694998 Share on other sites
Jezboosted
Finally managed to do this the other day - noise stops for a second then continues. When the noise stopped for a second, where were you squirting the water ? Jezboosted
With engine off see if you can twist a A/C, PS or Alt belt more than 90degress with one hand. If you can, tighten it up. It May also be too tight and back off a touch if necessary. Can you isolate it to a single belt perhaps ? Using a glass of water just slowly dribble it onto 1 belt and listen for change. If no change, move to next belt. bentwagon
So, took it to the mechanic - needed brakes done - and they said the noise may be power steering needing a flush, either that or its the pump. Tightened belts a little but noise still there. Now to research how to DIY power steer flush... Get a plastic drink bottle and drill a small hole in the lid. Just do one belt/ pulley at a time and wait 20 seconds before trying next belt. You know the sound went away when you hosed the belts. How can this then be caused by PS fluid ? ones internal, the other is external. Did you twist the belts and see how far they twisted ?
