hey folks.

Can someone tell me please where i can locate the fuel pump relay on my 1998 r34 gtt skyline.

My cars up for sale, i've been away working for 4 weeks, came home to get the car runnning and sell it and the battery's ran completely flat and wouldnt take a jump start or any charge when hooked up to a car.

I replaced teh battery, but the car woulndt event start or ignition turn on. i figured i'd blown a fuse??

I checked teh fuse box under teh bonnet and yes i 'd blown the 80AMP Altenator Fuse. So off to shops i went and bought one.

I fited it with battery disconnected, hooked the battery up again, tried starting it but the engine wont fire up. Plenty of ooomfff in teh starter and battery but it

s like its not getting fuel.

I cant hear teh fuel pump in teh boot wizz up when i turn the ignition on, i checked the fuses in the drivers foot well, they all looked ok, including the 15amp fuel pump fuse, i checked it has 12v either side also.

I removed the fuel hose after the filter in teh engine bay and turned teh engine over, alas, no fuel coming through. now i know its a fuel problem.

Now i'm trying to find where to locate the standard fuel pump relay to see if it's that.

Can anyone tell me where i can find it and also if anyone has any other ideas on how to get her started id be very gratefull as i have 3 guys coming tonight to look at the car and it not being able to start is guna kill me.

also, should i be removing teh back seats and that little pannel which gives you access ontop of teh fuel tank to check for anything??

Getting in from teh boot is impossible as i have a custom $8k sound system installed lol,

cheers

Gav

greatly appreciate a text with advice

I had a problem with dirty fuel. My fuel filter got blocked and in the fuel tank there is a little pressure release valve and it had popped open so that fuel was only circulating in the fuel tank. The symptoms sound exactly the same, the car cranks and cranks and cranks but it won't ever start.

We pulled the fuel cradle, pump and lines etc and saw that the spring in the release valve had popped out so no fuel was getting anywhere near the engine.

I think this could be what your problem is, but I can't be certain. One way to check I guess would be to spray 'start ya bastard' or crc into the intank plenum as the car is being cranked over to try and get a cough and splutter out of the engine to rule out ignition problems. When we sprayed it in the car coughed and spluttered.

If this is your problem call Nissan - order part 17065 AA500 - takes about a month to get here from Japan. Change fuel filter regularly, we do ours with our oil change, every 5000kms now.

Good luck.

thanks mate.

Im not so sure it's that though. It just seems weird how the car used to start no problem before and when the battery would run flat from the car being sat on the drive, id just jump start it and it would run fine. I changed the battery and had some bad arking which prob blew the 80 amp Altenator Fuse aswell as a few 10 amp ignition control fuses. Now, it cranks no worries, but jus dont hear the fuel pump energise. and i pulled off the main fule line coming of the fuel filter in the lhs engine bay and cranked her over and no fuel comes out so my probs obv fuel pump related. I just cant for the life of me find the fuel pump relay to check that. I've checked all my fuses are good.

are you able to hear your fuel pump kick in when u turn the ignition on yours???

I've spent the night pulling out my sound system from the boot as i read on the forum that the fuel relay in in the boot next to battery ontop of teh fuel tank body but there's nothing there, only 2 ecu type looking control units with a black casing attached to teh side with some sort of coils in them. doesnt look anything like the traditional 4 or 5 pin relays. this one has connectors which makes me think its not what im looking for, probably for traction control system or sumit.

I did however find my APEXI aftermarket ECU in the front left hand passenger footwell near the kick plate. and behind there , there seems to be some more relays, but i wouldnt know what ones to look at and besides, the wiring is very tight and i couldnt get the carpet up, i was knackered by this point so called it a day.

Just wondering if its maybe the immobiliser playing games with teh fuel pump or relay????

Im not sure if there is fuel pump relay, think it works via the ECU. Could very well be the immobiliser, I've seen first hand how annoying they can be. We have a Walbro fuel pump and when we turn the car on to ACC we hear it prime and the fuel hoses buldge with the pressure.

Do your fuel lines buldge when you turn the car to ACC?

sorry i dont understand ur question mate about ACC ???

I've managed to locate the ECU, it's an APEXI FC ECU & CONTROLLER ER34, ive connected my battery up again and ignition on, realised i have zero power on the hand controller for my APEXI ECU , therefore i recon i've either blown an in-line fuse before the ECU, or i've blown my ECU.

Either way, i'm looking at $1599 for another Apexi Fc Ecu and hand controller, or i buy a second hand stock ecu for $300 from nsw.

Im selling the car so prob cheaper i put in a stock ecu.

im trying to find a ecu wiring diagram for my car, can anyone help with that??? i want to confirm im getting power to ecu before i buy a new one.

My car is a 1998 R34 gtt Neo 6, RB25DET chassis number is 6u90000ER34005412 ENGINE NO: RB25285087A

I REALLY need a wiring diagram/ pin layout if anyone can help ????

the 80amp fuse wont blow from changing a battery, also big arcing sounds like the battery was connected backwards or its been jumpstarted backwards, anything could be blown.

also if teh fuel pump is priming theres no need to locate teh relay it obviously working ok

hopefuly another blown fuse is the reason u got 0v at the ecu !

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey Jimmy. cheers for the reply, I replaced the ecu with a standard one and it starts and runs, but very lumnpy. so now im thinking ive damaged teh airflow meter also???

I just need a decent skyline guru to come diagnose or throw on another airflow meter so i can test if my theory is correct.

Du know anyone with spare airflow meter or any decent r34 guru's????
