"Silvia Spec-S

The Spec-S was the non turbo base model with 121kW (161hp) and featured only a 5-speed manual transmission (in addition to a 4-speed automatic). It also lacked the additional chassis support of the Spec-R, featured 2-piston front brake caliper and a slightly smaller brake booster. The Spec-S also only featured the viscous limited slip differential.

Okay, so with that said, it seems a 99 Silvia Spec S cant be complied in Aus because it doesnt meet power-to-weight requirements.....

Note the add says "be the first Australian owner" so that SEEMS to rule out the fact it was brought over as a personal import...as the first Australian owner would have been the person who personally imported the vehicle.

The add also states "completely unmodified"....even though it clearly has had an SR20DET conversion..as Spec S came from the factory with SR20DE

Can anyone shed some light on this? Have the SEVS rules changed? Because there is a mint S13 Q's two tone in Japan at the moment which I wouldnt mind buying if the whole power-to-weight rule has been dropped.

One of two explanations - it's a Spec S that has come in as a personal import (in which case the price matches the condition and kms) and the seller has no idea what they're trying to sell...

OR

it's a Spec R with Spec S badges, the kms have been hideously wound back, and the seller has no idea what they're trying to sell...

I haven't got the chassis number, but if someone wants to get it, I'm all ears.

For JDM models, the Spec S was non-turbo and the Spec R was turbo. Apparently they're now saying it's a turbo Spec S...no such beast...

Pretty sure it is just a Spec R with Spec S badges.

Although, how come you say the km's are wound back? Are the indications of this? I'm looking for an s15 for my friend at the moment too, so trying to find out all info possible.

...it would be something to do with a genuine 36,000km S15 Spec R being worth more than $25K to land and comply here...and this one is selling for $13K...

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
