hey all

to start things off i'm talking about this piece specifically

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/417831-r34-skyline-front-grill-brand-new-125/

So mine looks like it was RED before, and someone has painted over it in black. I know it was red because bits are coming off and it shows through, and also the black is kind of lumpy so i reckon it was a real dodgy job of painting (how hard can it be to do this properly?) anyway:

I'd like to know whether it's safe to use acetone etc/paint stripper to remove the layer(s) of paint on this grill, and then I can spray it again using _____ (suggestions? I was thinking tamiya spray paint for RC car shells, since those are plastic and they have a nice range of colours). My concern is that since the grill is plastic I don't want to destroy/melt it with the stripping process.

pointers would be nice, cheers

Its a form of abs plastic

Acetone will melt it

And many strippers will too

maybe try a automotive paint shop spray stripper ask them if its plastic safe , i would just soda blast it but i have one lol

series 2 grill too nice tiny holes haha

wrap the big edge in carbon

Matte ceramic black or titanuim silver the rest

I f**king hate my s2 bar and need my kit on asap

Edited by Carbon 34

thanks Troy, what's this soda blast? I'm after a solution which can be quickly achieved at home, with at most a trip to the bunnings etc, weekends time is limited don't have so much time to be going here and there!

wonder if there is like a carbon paint dip...hahaha well i have the nismo kit so my bar looks nice to me =)

Actaully theyre is a carbon dip. Watertransfer process but not cheap and it wouldnt work on the mesh area

Soda blast unless you know what your doing will kill the grill and you need equipment to do it

I'd say a spray on abs plastic safe stripper watch then clips those arent abs and will melt !!

Or sit on your porch with a cold one and a bucket of sandpaper lol

might be easier to source a unmolested grill and save that one for soda and carbon wrap? later on

you could always buy a rolls royce grill and cut to fit haha

hahahha alrighty thanks Troy may investigate the ABS plastic safe stripper, the only reason i'm not thinking of using sandpaper is because there's buildup of old paint in the corners of the mesh, if you know what i'm talking about...seems like the previous owner (s) didn't do much, just sprayed on a new layer =.=

or use....gutter mesh

oh come one you want to spend a month sanding the grooves lol

buy a diff front bar lol

Do you like s2 fronts , so ford like haha

Gutter mesh sounds like something you use to weed out ugly chicks as the pub closes

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
