Thought it was about time I gave a bit of details about my motor since I've been using this forum a fair amount. I'd been saving for an Imprezza when a friend pointed this out to me and for £1100 at new year I ended up with a RS4 Stagea:

First job was to get rid of the "jdm" stickers on the back, and got rid of the rs4 and nismo badges on the back too. Stageas are very rare over here so wanted these off to it doesn't look too special, going for a sleeper effect:

After:

Didn't have any mats so managed to get a set of r34 gtt ones off a friend, and fitted an alpine headunit:

Took the door cars out to look at the speakers and found they'd already been replaced with Sony ones, winner!

Ordered and fitted some BC coilovers in some fine British weather which improved the handling a hell of a lot:

Not sure if the laws the same in Oz, but over here you need to have a rear fog light, so all imports have to have a hanging one fitted which doesn't look great. As the Stag has two reversing light and you only need one I simply cut the feed to one, put a red bulb in and wired the fog light up to it, making the back end look tidier:

Next the car went into a bodyshop for a week to have the rust below the wing mirrors sorted, along with under the bonnet at the top of the suspension. This eliminated all of the rust on it.

Had a very busy weekend following that where I removed the airbox and put a HKS mushroom filter in, adjusted the coilovers, fitted 350Z wheels and replaced the exhaust with a Blitz Nur Spec R system, decat, and 3 inch downpipe. A subtle but deep tone from the exhaust now.

Brought a set of R32 Gtr front seats and some sabelt double release 4 point harnesses to help keep my ass in place while driving:

Then a HKS EVC4 for boost control and also acts as a boost gauge:

Then got a set of R33 GTS-T brake calipers were then bought, I painted them and fitted them with red stuff pads and dimpled and slotted pads:

This is now where the car currently stands after I've owned her for almost 3 months. All the work has been done by myself (apart from the rust repair) with the help of friends.

Not really going to do anything else with the body, don't want it looking fast, love the look on people's faces when it flies past. Manual box and hybrid turbo is the next job, then fmic, remap and a few other bits and pieces and should be running around 400bhp

The new wheels and coilovers make a huge improvement on the appearance. Nice one.

I always think that they look slightly naked without a rear wing, but that's probably because mine is... well, large.

  • 3 weeks later...

s2 tail lights are just the clear looking ones, just makes it look a lot more modern

have a look on ebay for an autech rear spoiler too, i reckon they look the best!

You must be doing pretty well over there with the snow at the moment, the manual box will make it a lot more fun :P

    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
