NSW set to get 100 new red-light speed cameras

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/08/06/17/54/nsw-set-to-get-100-new-red-light-speed-cameras

To be fair (when are they ever?), there's a 4 weeks grace period where warning letters will be issued if you get flashed. A PDF of all the new locations can be downloaded so heads up.

21 for metro Syd, the rest is elsewhere NSW.

Main ones to look for (guessing by the majority of drivers) :

Rocky Point Rd

Cumberland Hwy

Horsley Dr

GWH

I'm waiting to see people getting rear ended because they slam on the brakes hard at the slight hint of amber even when they can prefectly go through without setting off the speed or red light reveune machines.

Or you just get people who slow down to 20 km/h under 500m before the intersection even when the light is still green...

On the plus side at least they are fixed & easily remembered, not like Cops or cameras hidden in bushes 100m in front of a speed limit change.

This plus eleventy billion.

On Monday I almost witnessed someone getting rear ended at the Henry Lawson/Milperra Rd intersection because of the light. The leading car could have easily coasted through doing 70 km/h, but of course the retard was doing 55 then slammed the brakes as soon as it switched from green.

At least we can see them. I go through speed cameras pretty much at the speed limit (my speedo is only a couple of units quicker with the current tyre size so pretty easy to do) without issue. I don't see why others can't. Of course this is Sydney, where any retard is allowed to drive.

Could not agree more. I forgot which country it was, but they had a count down timer next to the lights so motorists can expect when the lights are about to change. last 5 or so seconds is yellow then 0 turns red. and this was in a less developed country than we are.

I saw this setup in China and i think Thailand somewhere as well! Thought it was cool :)

That sounds really cool. Would really help I think.

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
