Mugabetown - Whoretownin' At It's Worst.

And the shenanigans begin... First monthly pay from decmil and I'm pretty sure I've just been paid my base salary with no site loading...

Thats far from ideal. I can see the two figures being very very different

SO, my afternoon and night got interesting yesterday. Was going to head out the the harry's meet cause i was bored as fark... Decided to put the front timing cover back on to make it look a bit better. Marked up the CAS and everything as normal, took it off then put it all back on as normal. Cranked it over and heard a crunch so shut it down and took it all apart again.

After a bit of probing and prodding, I found that the "half moon" nubs in the CAS and on the end of the cam must not have been lined up perfect and it snapped the one off the end of the cam.... Not an ideal situation.

After some head pondering between a mate and I we came to a resolution. We ended up being able to line up where the half moons would be and get the CAS back on in that spot then line up the original markings we made.

Put it all back together and started it up and it cranked over fine and sounded like normal. We free revved it a bit and all seemed good, next was time to take it for a drive and see what it was like under load. We started with normal driving and occasionally getting into boost, all seemed fine. We gradually started giving it more and more throttle and everything was good. Finally we did one last pull, full noise through all 5 gears and it was exactly the same as normal.

Even still I may look into a replacement cam just to be safe..

oh. I thought the half moon CAS centre was not aligned and snapped!

My bad. Am still waking up

both half moons werent aligned properly and fouled on each other, however when i turned it over it was the one on the cam that decided to snap not the CAS. wish it was the CAS lol...

But yeah as i said a bit earlier there is no noticeable difference when driving the car. So "if" and thats a big "if" its out it can only a a degree or so as you cant hear or feel it.

wait. You talkin about the half moon seals that go on the head not being aligned right?

Its aligned now. Im talking about the half moon that is on the front end of the camshaft. Like pull off the CAS and look in the whole where the centre goes in and locks into place. In there.. See google pic below

thats what I initially thought. And that is exactly how I busted my CAS.

Scotty we have a car in ATM with this bit broken off

The cas is perfectly fine if you get it in the right tooth

Just get a timing light and chuck it on and make sure it's in the right spot before...... Giving it to it

It should be fine that way even with the broken half but it's completely up to you of you want to replace...... Then I buy cam

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
