Mobile Helicoil & Broken Stud Removal / Specialist Around Canley Area?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Typical RB shenanigans, cylinders 1 & 6 have broken studs.. and looks like in the past the previous owner tried to remove them himself/herself and left a mess on cylinder one with like chisel marks etc.. and a threaded hole.

So pretty much the car is in my backyard without a manifold on and 3x broken studs and 1x stripped thread on cylinders 1 and 6.

I will require the service of someone here or professional to:

- remove 3x broken studs

- helicoil 1x stripped thread

To help with the service, I have at home an air compressor, a corded drill, cordless drill, 90 degree drill adaptor, enough tools, etc..

I prefer to not to attempt this myself on the motor as I don't want to make it worse, if it was out of the car I would give it a crack.

I've been quoted $300 to get it removed, but that's pretty steep.

Hopefully under $200 and I'll pay with cash and throw in a few free beers :)

Cheers,

Johnny

hectic, after calling about 4 places/people

Greg at Action Thread Repairs, happy to do it for $200 ish mobile service too.. scheduled in for Monday.. BAM!

Good score for $200 Johnny for the amount of work involved!

I'm assuming (I hardly ever do this, as assumations are the mother of all f#%kups) that your talking about exhaust studs.

Now is the time to replace the lot with new 316 stainless studs, nuts & flat washers.

I'd also recommend using nickel based anti-seize to facilitate easier removal further down the track, however, DO NOT over torque the nuts, as when anti-seize is used will result in over torquing, unless it has been factored into the torque specifications.

I generally reduce torque by 25%, if not factored in by manufacturers specs due to the lubricating properties of it.

The most common brand sold is Unasco Nickel anti-seize compound.

Let's see how it goes Monday haha.. Greg did say it might be a little more.

Good tip, I'll buy some anti seize this weekend. Supercheap should have it right?

#nissanlife lol

so everything done, however the very last thread, there are 2x easy outs stuck in it & weld marks all around it..

Looks like the previous owner had a go and mad a mess out of it.. Greg said it will be a PITA to drill it out and fix it up.. so I opted for just fixing the other studs and leaving that 1x stud untouched..

I hope it doesn't leak :(

  • 2 weeks later...

hope so :)

turbo, manifold, gaskets, studs, lines are all in.. even chopped my RS*R downpipe and welded 2x bends to fit up to the turbo's v band flange.

just need a screamer pipe and my exhaust wrap to come and let's see how she goes :D

but but but... I'm running an external gate :)

trust the car is super quiet, I'm planning to mod my exhaust to make it even MORE quiet. I'm running 1x mid muffler, 1x resonator, 1x rear cannon muffler. Will be changing the mid muffler to a hooker aero chamber item soon.

So for normal driving conditions, it would be probably as loud as a stock car, until I crack zeee gate hehe

    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
