Hi All,

I really need help/advise to confirm what my current turbos are on my stagea.

I really don't think they are standard but whats the easier and best way to confirm?

I think they were changed on compliance.

I've got a little camera that i can more around or look at pulling parts off.

Can anyone tell if i was to get the numbers off them?

I've been running 14psi through them for like the last year and have another boost setting which seems to have gone to 17.9

I don't want to run that unless I can confirm that i don't have ceramic exhaust wheels

Any held would be greatly appreciated.

They won't have been changed "on compliance" unless they were special in some way and therefore "stolen" by the compliance shop. If they were changed under those circumstances then it is more likely that the only turbos anyone would put on would be the cheapest and easiest to get hold of - ie, std GTR turbos.

Checking the numbers on the cores won't help you at all unless it proves that they really are something special. Even std turbos can fairly easily have the ceramic wheels changed out for metal ones without the numbers on the outside changing. The numbers won't tell you anything in that case except that they may still have ceramic wheels.

If you have ceramic wheels, don't even think about running it at 14 psi all the time unless you like the idea of rebuilding the engine. 17+ psi would obviously be stupid. This is not to say that ceramic turbos won't do it - I ran my RB20 turbo at 17 psi for a few days once (before realising why it was going so fast!) and it didn't self destruct. But keep doing it and it's like playing Russian Roulette with 5 bullets in the gun, not 1.

Try to see the I.d. plates then Google them.

Otherwise, remove a dump and l ook at wheel (you would have to be very keen to do it)

Edit. GTSBoy beat me with more info.....

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
