use to be heavily involved with the WA bmx scene but after having 3 $2000+ bikes stolen it was too costly to persue (16yr old working at maccas) i know a fair bit about mountain bikes too so i can tell you what to look for and what to stay away from.

I race mountain bikes. For $500 ish try the giant range for the price they're quite good.

most new cheaper MTB have a sticker on them that says not for use offroad, which makes you wonder why they have suspension!

Yeah Giant make good quality bikes to suit any buget
