Comprehensive insurance

Hey guys,

I've got quotes with Justcar and Young & Cool. Any other good places that'll insure in Sydney?

My current info is:

- '96 R33 Skyline GTS25t insured to the value of about $25,000

- 20/21 years old (depending on when I take delivery)

- 20-30% no claim (goes to 30% if I hold onto my current insurance till Feb 03)

- Stock car EXCEPT an exhaust tip

It's looking to be around $4,000-$4,500 for the first year (and less for subsequent years as my no-claim goes up).

A further question, for those who've had the misfortune to have had to make a claim - will they count an exhaust tip as a modification on the "exhaust"? I'd prefer to tell them, but the premium just skyrockets.

I've heard insurance brokers get much better deals with the insurance companies, anyone know any?

Hey there,

Can you recommend any insurance brokers?

I tried Suncorp's online estimate and it said it couldn't give me a a price based on what I entered. I'll call them on Monday and give them my info over the phone and see what I get.

Ouch! I just called Suncorp for a 96 Skyline for me (20yo 20% no claim) and they said $9500/yr for comprehensive insurance!

How did you guys get cheap insurance with them? You get discounts if you have other forms of insurance with them, but I don't..

I'll either stick to JusrCar or find an insurance broker :)

Ouch!!! Might have something to do with Sydney...but I don't know.

24 year old, 0% no claim....$2400. And it went up to $400 when i moved from Gladstone to Brisbane. So I talked them down on my rating to rating 5 so with 20% ncb went down to $2000.

What about modifications? Any? Mine doesn't have any...I bought it that way. :)

They didn't ask if I had any mods, but mine wouldn't have any.

I'm a 20 year old with a 20% no claim, and the Suncorp guy reckons age doesn't matter, only no claim. I don't understand it - did you just call them up and get a quote? Or visit them?

No...always just ring them up. Must be the Sydney thing. Do you live in a bad neighbourhood?

Anyone else have experience with Suncorp-Metway and live in Sydney?

I quoted Chatswood as I'm moving there soon. I currently live in Mosman which is a good area for car insurance.

However, Chatswood definitely isn't a hot spot for car theft so I don't think it's a suburb thing..

Suncorp-Metway is Queensland company...Maybe they don't like southerners?

I live in Sydney in the North Shore. I have one car (non high risk) insured with suncorp under my name at a very decent price.

When I called to get a quote for the GTR they quoted me $12K. So I said fine. I called up about 4 more times because I know insurance companies are inconsistent. But each time they came back with a high quote.

I spoke to the manager on the day. He said the reason is because Sydney is a much higher risk area than other states (which is true) and cos the car is high risk.

No one I know personally as of late has been able to get a decent quote from suncorp in Sydney < 25 years old.

I'm with Suncorp too, I went thru a broker. The broker was in QLD, which might have helped getting the insurance, as they probably send a lot of business to Suncorp.

But I'm in Canberra (low risk) so it might have been a totally different story if I'd been in Sydney :)

If you make a claim that is your fault, doesn't your rating go back to 0%? Then you have to start building up? (1 rating improvement per year).

How old / who are you with that chares $2300?

I just got a quote from "Famous Classic Car Insurance" for my Skyline.

I quoted:

- 20 years old

- 20% no claim

- $26,000 Skyline Turbo

- He didn't ask if I had any mods

For $3299.

This is considerably cheaper than any other places I've tried (Justcar, Young & Cool and many others).

Has anyone ever heard of these guys? As much as I'd like to save money, I don't wanna blow it on a company that won't accept my claims / dissapear / etc.

Grr!

I just rand RAC about insurance for a 1993 N/A Skyline and they said the following cars will not be insured for new members -

Nissan 300ZX

Nissan 200SX

Nissan 180SX

Nissan Silvia

Nissan Skyline

Toyota Soarer

Toyota Supra

Toyota MR2

That sucks.

Time to call Shannons, SGIO, Young and Cool and anyone else ...?

    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
