R33 gtst injector questions

I have a series 1 33 gtst, just purchased the car and have a question. 

Have been told its been rebuilt 40xxx ago and had bigger injectors and bigger fuel pump installed with a standard ecu.  it shoots flames.. Like hella shoots them..  All the time.

On the jdm cred side of things it's badass but I can't help but wonder..

Is the flames due to the bigger injectors making it run rich? 

With it having bigger injectors,  would I benefit from installing an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator? 

If so,  what would the ideal pressure be or how would I find that figure?
