Im sure you could source a good second hand one, or even better get it reco'ed. I think...is it DBA??/....that place that does brakes and clutches....i dunno Friday after work sucks :)...well yer, they had new parts for my car. Youd be suprised what you can get new for imports these days....their not so rare now, just make sure you ring around for a cheap price :P

Either that or Transteer...damn fine workshop :D

Dean it is the motor not the rack (thank god :D)

Joel enough out of u :(

Umm ok I will c about getting it rebuilt, the thing was rebuilt only 2 years ago too so whoever did that didn't do it prop :)

GFXMan, mate it doesnt make a noise anymore, it leaks and doesn't work under 2000rpm now LOL.

At the start it worked fine but it was just very noisy under load...very noisy.

Then it developed a leak and dumped all the fluid.

So basically the fixed the leak (in the high pressure hose), and put new fluid in.

I think the problem was (before the leak) was that the fluid was not gettting through properly.. not sure why.

Are you sure your steering rack is ok?

i have no idea about the steering rack but the fluid has stayed the same level since i got the car. no signs of leak? maybe a clog?

the thing is the power steering works for the first few minutes when i start the car then it stops but its not fully cut off. its just a bit harder to steer. heaps weird

i havent had the chance to bring it to the repairers yet but i have been to JADE or something on Port rd and they seem really dodgy. they kept my power steering pump for bout 6months just to test it. and i had to ring them up to hassle them to check it 4 me then they just said the pumped was stuffed and they had got rid of it.

yeah my hicas is stuffed as well

the power streering cuts out after the first minute or so then soon after the hicas light comes on

i didnt think it had anything to do with the power steering system? hicas problems is common with r32s but i wasnt fussed about getting it fixed but if its linked to the power steering then might as well get it fixed too

i was at a suspension place at Melrose park? next door to RPM and they gave me a number to this place that might be able to help.

havent tried them yet but if u want its

"Re-Car" 8263 9833

does anyone else have the same problem?

G'day mate,

I also have a 1JZ-GTE with power steering and oil leaks. Do you have any pictures of your engine bay or power steering setup?

I have a few small leaks in the hose i assume, but not sure if it is the rack. And recently I have lost half my engine oil due to a leak on the bottom end somewhere.

Have you had any major oil leaks. replaced valve stem seals, cam seals or anything thing else since you have had it? Have you had any problems with it since you have owned it?

Cheers.

Hey All,

I have an issue with my power steering..... basically it is f@ked! :D

Can anyone recommend someone that can fix these and wont rip you off?

I was thinking of maybe going a new one , but NFI where u would buy a brand new pump for an import?

Cheers :D

Rob.

Howdy Danish,

Umm I dont not have any close-up pic's of the pump or bay but I will try to get some up asap.

On the Powersteering note mine is again making noise under load... sometimes it is minimum , and sometimes it is loud.... so basically the pump is still shagged and is going to need preplacing to get rid of the noise .. or rebuild with a new seal/bearing kit... it works ok so I will live with it at the moment I guess.

As for engine leaks my car does not have any... the engine came from a half cut out of a JZA70-R and it looks like all the proper servicing was done whilst in Japan (including the proper 100,000km service ..eg timing belt).

Umm only things that were replaced by the previous owner (in Aus) was the harmonic balancer (nfi what it is LOL) and the waterpump.

The only real issues I know of is the turbo's on the 1JZ can be fragile when boosted to much... mine has not been boosted in Aus, and half cut never had any type of boost kit installed.

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
    • Are you 100% sure this isn't tune related?
    • 140-150 across the board. At this point hoping the grounding harness fixes it. My grounds are all tied to the chassis and none to the battery. For SR and KA that’s never been a problem for me but had a few other guys here and Reddit who told me RB really like a very solid ground setup tied to the battery so going to try that next, I’m stumped if that doesn’t do it. Never had a car have spark and fuel and not fire off before. Only thing I can think is the spark is intermittent/weak because of grounds nothing else really makes sense at this point
    • I am having close to the same issue. Can you help me with what wire you grounded to get your pump to trigger?
