Power Button Not Working (auto trans)

Looking for guidance on this issue im having. I have a R32 GTS4 with an RB20DET that has an automatic transmission.

The issue I am having is that the power button, near the automatic shifter, is not illuminating near the gauge cluster. The power button light is needed to do the automatic transmission diagnostics check. Basically my transmission is stuck in 3rd gear. I can manually up shit and down shift 1st and 2nd and it won’t upshift to 4th or overdrive. I really need that power button light to work so I can run the check to see what the issue is.

Given that you appear to have a problem with at least one of the inputs required to put the TCU into diag mode, it is probably better to not bother to do diagnostics that way. Just go to a workshop that has a diagnostics terminal capable of talking to Nissan Consult stuff and interrogate the TCU directly. Going to be so much easier. You will be able to see directly if the TCU can even see the power button being pushed.

The fact that it won't change into 4th suggests that you have a larger problem than just the power button, and there may in fact be no problem with the power button. The TCU might be ignoring it because of this problem.

Of course, if you are going to complain about having to go to a workshop and pay someone to do this for you, then you can always start at the beginning (the wiring diagram) and use a multimeter to see if the button works at all (at the button) and/or at the TCU end of the wires. You might find the switch mech has broken or is dirty. You might find a broken wire. Etc.

@GTSBoy thank you for the reply! I will try to find someone local that can run the Nissan Consult to see what the issue is. 

It’s all odd as it wasn’t working right when I picked it up from the port but randomly worked one of the times I took it for a test drive and shifted beautifully. 

Maybe I’ll watch some videos on how to test wires for bad grounds, breaks, etc to try and see if I can find the issue as well.

      Hang on. Let me get this straight. The desire is to have coilovers, BC in particular, to be MORE comfortable on Sydney roads than stock suspension? Well, that's obviously not right. BCs have crude damping design at the very best, and typically hard spring rates. BC stands for Billy Cart. And then, the desire is to put in some shitty old worn out stockers, to get it blue slipped and then put the BCs back in? And then.....what? Not worry about getting pulled up by the Plod? Because you seem to have raised a worry about paying for engineering (which actually does solve all your legality problems) and still getting pulled up.... but the only problem there is that if/when that happens you have to show your paperwork at the inspection station. Whereas, if you just swap in borrowed shitty old stockers to get it slipped now, and then you get defected in the future, you have to go find more shitty old stockers then too. You course of action looks like this set of options: Buy brand new stock type dampers, and springs. probably cost a bit more than $1k all up, but will last for the remaining life of the car. Put them in, pass inspection, drive on them forever more. Hell, they could even be really nice Bilsteins and Kings or other lower&stiffer springs if you wanted. Get the car engineered as is. ~$1k. Buy new Shockworks coilvers (or MCA) and also pay for engineering. You're spending a lot more here. But these will be the best things that you could drive around on.

      Might be worthwhile hitting up Facebook's groups, I know most of them contain terrible people and scammers - however you might be able to find someone that's in Sydney with factory suspension you could purchase and/or hire. Just do not send any form of money anywhere, in person cash only.

      Thanks @Duncan Ride height is fine. I think it's almost stock tbh. Happy to share a pic. I don't actually have a regular mechanic as haven't lived in Sydney too long. Could you or anyone recommend any shops in Sydney?
